Tata Motors continues to test the upcoming Tata Sierra EV on Indian roads, just ahead of its launch, and the newest spy shots reveal some very interesting details. Also, this time the upcoming electric SUV had less camouflage, so that may be a sign that it is in the end phase of its testing cycle, ready for production.
The recently spotted Tata Sierra EV test mule retains the boxy design from the ICE Tata Sierra that made us go crazy. Its bold and tall stance retains the iconic rear quarter glass panel, just like the OG Tata Sierra. It comes with squared wheel arches for that muscular, rugged look and has alloy wheels with different designs, which hint to multiple variants. Other visible features include the signature connected LED lighting setup, flush door handles, and thick body cladding. The most interesting thing is, this time the silver rear diffuser is visible, without any camouflage.
In these recent spyshots, we also get a glimpse of how the new electric Tata SUV might look from the inside. It is equipped with a large infotainment display, which looks to be bigger than at least 15 inches, alongside the driver’s fully digital instrument console that is already loaded.
The new electric SUV is also expected to get a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, wireless connectivity, OTA (over-the-air) updates, and a triple-screen setup for its top-spec variants, just like the ICE Tata Sierra. It is also expected to get multiple airbags, ADAS, and even a 360-degree camera, just like Tata’s premium offerings.
The Tata Sierra EV is expected to be built on the same Gen 2 Acti.ev+ platform from the Tata Harrier EV. It will likely share the same powertrain, in single and dual-motor configurations, but more details about this are yet to be revealed.
Expected Launch Timeline, Price And Positioning
We expect Tata to launch the Sierra EV later this month, with prices starting in between Rs 15 and 20 lakh, which might even go upwards of Rs 25 lakh (both prices are expected ex-showroom) for the top-spec variants. Its primary rivals will be the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, MG Windsor, Maruti Suzuki eVitara, and the Mahindra BE series. For the price tag, other alternatives could be the Mahindra XEV 9S, and the upcoming MG Starlight EV.
