Expert Verdict
The Tata Curvv EV is ideal for urban professionals and families who value bold SUV-Coupe styling and 5-star safety over rear-seat headroom — a feature-loaded commuter that doubles as a capable highway tourer, best suited for those with home-charging access.
Tata Curvv EV Design
Exterior
The biggest talking point of the Tata Curvv EV begins with the exterior itself. The ‘SUV-coupe’ silhouette features a sloping roofline, flush-fitting door handles (first in the segment by Tata), and a signature LED light bar with welcome and goodbye animations. The 18-inch wheels with aero alloys give it a commanding stance and sit right with the design.
Interior
You might feel that you’ve entered a Tata Nexon EV, just a bit more premium. You get a dual-tone theme, leatherette inserts, and ambient lighting, all of which elevate the feel. The dashboard is minimalist, with a massive 12.3-inch floating touchscreen and an illuminated four-spoke steering wheel. But, we did find that the fit and finish could have been improved, as there are some visible panel gaps and the piano-black plastics are prone to scratches.
Build Quality
Overall, the build quality is good, with some room for improvement in fit and finish. The Curvv EV does feel premium, with the flush door handles fitting perfectly. Uneven gaps are often visible where the dashboard meets the door pads, and around the exterior tailgate shut lines. The Curvv EV feels structurally “tank-like” and safe, but it still lacks the surgical precision in fit and finish found in some of its Korean or European rivals.
Tata Curvv EV Features
Tata Motors went all the way in to provide a plethora of features in the Curvv EV. Entertainment is handled by a segment-leading 9-speaker JBL system with multiple audio modes. Other “feel-good” features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree 3D camera with a blind-view monitor, and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate. It also debuts V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging, turning the car into a mobile power bank. The SUV-coupe is also equipped with level-2 ADAS that is seamlessly integrated into the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
That being said, there are a few features that we wish were there, such as dual-zone climate control, a powered passenger seat, and telescopic steering adjustment. Another small issue that we found is the depth of the cup holders; it could be increased to improve the practicality.
Tata Curvv EV Performance & Range
The electric drivetrain that produces 167hp of power and a peak torque of 215Nm makes the Tata Curvv EV a puncy performer. You get three driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport. The ‘Eco’ and the ‘City’ modes are well-calibrated for daily commutes, and the ‘Sport’ mode feels just right when you need an extra amount of thrill.
The claimed range for the Tata Curvv EV is 502 km for the 55kWh battery pack and 430 km for the 45kWh one. We drove the 55kWh one and got a range of around 380-400 km, which is good for city driving. On the highways, if you cruise above 100 kmph, the range will drop to 300-320 kms. Overall, the range is great for city driving, but for highways, you will have to make some pit stops if you’re planning a journey beyond 300 km.
Tata Curvv EV Ride & Handling
Thanks to the low center of gravity due to the battery placement, the Tata Curvv EV feels planted to the ground, even at high speeds. The steering is light for the city drive, and does weigh up decently on the highways, although we do feel that the steering feedback can be improved.
As for the suspension setup, we found it to be on the firmer side. A sharp pothole will send some chills down your spine, not literally, but you get the gist. You will experience a ‘thud’ inside the cabin. On the smooth roads, you won’t feel much. On high speeds, the suspension works great, and the car feels stable.
Tata Curvv EV Safety
When the Bharat NCAP has awarded a 5-star rating to the Curvv EV, who are we to judge? Tata cars are known for providing unmatched safety, and the Curvv EV is no less. Standard safety features include 6 airbags, ESC, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX, acoustic vehicle alert system, and pedestrian protection that meets the AIS-100 standards.
On the higher trims, you get the level-2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, etc.
One slight issue that we found is that the sloping roofline results in a major blind spot for the C-pillar, and the rear windshield is also small. To counter this, you do get a 360-degree camera, but looking over the shoulder might not be the best choice.
Tata Curvv EV Space & Comfort
The front seats are extremely comfortable with wide seats, and you get a good amount of visibility as well. The rear is where you’ll find a bit of trouble. This is the Curvv’s Achilles’ heel. The sloping roofline restricts headroom for tall passengers (above 5’10”). The high floor (battery placement) leads to a “knees-up” seating position, affecting under-thigh support. If you’re going to seat your kids in the rear, no issues, but adults, and those with height more than 5’10”, are going to be a bit uncomfortable. However, the 2-step reclining rear seats help mitigate some of this discomfort.
The boot space is massive, on paper it says 500 liters, and it does feel like it. You can easily store a lot, making it a perfect car for a family getaway. There’s a small 11.6-litre frunk in front, where you can store the charging cables, or a really small bag.
Tata Curvv EV Charging & Warranty
Charging is efficient for its class, supporting 70kW DC fast charging that takes the battery from 10% to 80% in 40 minutes. For home charging, a 7.2kW AC wallbox takes about 8 hours. If you are charging at home and driving it within the city, for about 50 km a day, a single charge can last up to 5-6 days, which is impressive and cost-effective as well.
The Warranty Advantage: In a bold move, Tata offers a Lifetime Battery Warranty for the first private owner (valid for 15 years), effectively eliminating long-term concerns over battery degradation. Which means, if you ever need a battery replacement, the effective cost will be Rs. 0! The standard vehicle warranty typically covers 3 years or 1.25 lakh km.
Tata Curvv EV Service & Network
While Tata Motors boasts the largest EV-ready service network in India, the consistency of the service quality remains a common user complaint, something that Tata needs to work on. Users often report long turnaround times or varying levels of technical expertise across different workshops, though the brand is actively rolling out “EV-only” service centers to address these concerns.
