Mercedes AMG has officially pulled the wraps off the all-electric GT SUV. This new five-seat model marks a historic milestone for the Affalterbach performance division as the very first full-size SUV is developed completely in-house. Serving as the high-rising sibling to the electric AMG GT 4 Door Coupe, it is the second production vehicle built on the dedicated AMG.EA electric architecture. At the top of the lineup sits the flagship GT 63, which delivers up to 1,169 horsepower and a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 700 kilometres on a single charge.
AMG.EA Architecture and Tri-Motor Powertrain

Mercedes AMG will offer the GT SUV in three variants globally, comprising the GT 53, GT 55, and GT 63. All three models run on an 800-volt electrical architecture, though the motor configurations and battery capacities vary across the range.
The entry level GT 53 utilises a dual motor all wheel drive setup featuring permanent magnet synchronous motors, with a direct drive unit at the front and a rear motor paired with a two speed automatic transmission. Together, they produce 544 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, sprinting the GT 53 from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in a claimed 4.2 seconds and at a top speed of 250 kilometres per hour.
Stepping up to the GT 55 and GT 63 brings a tri-motor layout that pairs two axial flux motors on the rear axle with a single front motor. The front unit can automatically decouple during steady cruising to reduce drag and conserve battery energy. In the mid-spec GT 55, this three-motor system generates 816 horsepower and 1,860 Nm of torque, cutting the 0 to 100 kilometres per hour time down to 3.1 seconds.
The range topping GT 63 pushes total output to 1,169 horsepower and 2,000 Nm of torque. Capable of doing a 0 to 100-kilometre per hour sprint in 2.7 seconds.
Battery and Charging: 450 kilometres of range in 10 minutes
The GT 55 and GT 63 utilise a 22 percent larger 128 kWh battery pack compared to the GT 53’s 106 kwh, allowing both models to claim a maximum WLTP range of up to 700 kilometre. With compatible charging hardware, this larger battery accepts DC fast charging at up to 710 kW, taking charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 11 to 12 minutes, adding up to 450 kilometres of driving range in roughly 10 minutes.

Active Suspension, Chassis Hardware, and V8 Sound
Every variant comes standard with rear-wheel steering and three-chamber air suspension tuned for the taller ride height. The GT SUV also debuts a new Active Ride Control Plus system, which comes standard on the GT 63. This setup replaces traditional mechanical anti-roll bars with active hydraulic actuators to keep body roll and pitching motions in check during hard cornering or braking.
To keep drivers engaged behind the wheel, Mercedes AMG included an AMGForce Sport Plus mode. This system uses interior and exterior speakers to project the synthesised rumble of a traditional AMG V8 engine in the GT 55 and GT 63, complete with simulated gear shifts. Drivers can switch the sound off whenever they prefer silent electric cruising.
Exterior Styling, Dimensions, and ‘Manufaktur’ Options

Measuring 5,084 millimetres in length with a 3,040-millimetre wheelbase, the GT SUV has a footprint comparable to full-size luxury flagships. Up front, it wears an illuminated vertical slat AMG grille, an illuminated Mercedes star badge, and star-shaped LED daytime running lights. A sloping roofline, flared wheel arches, and wide rear shoulders give it a low slung, muscular stance.
At the back, six circular LED taillights flank the tailgate and can be paired with an optional full-width light bar. On the GT 55 and GT 63, an active rear spoiler sits flush with the bodywork and deploys automatically once the vehicle exceeds 150 kilometres per hour. Through the Manufaktur customisation program, buyers can choose from more than 60 exterior paint finishes alongside forged alloy wheels with rim accents in shades like Matt Copper, Angel Blue, Sunny Lime, and Orange Flame.
Cabin Layout, Space, and Track Technology

Inside, the SUV shares its front dashboard design with the electric GT 4 Door Coupe. A 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central infotainment touchscreen come as standard, while a second 14-inch display for the front passenger is available as an option. The system runs the latest MBUX interface built on the Mercedes Benz Operating System, which integrates artificial intelligence voice assistants from Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Bing.
Three motor models feature three physical rotary dials on the center floor console that let the driver adjust throttle response, cornering behaviour, and traction control levels on the fly. The infotainment unit also houses three dedicated performance applications:
- AMG Performance Menu: Displays live telemetry, including power delivery, tyre temperatures, and active aerodynamics.
- AMG Set Up: Allows customisation of steering wheel shortcut buttons and chassis settings.
- AMG Track Pace: Logs circuit lap times using an optional built-in dashcam with data overlays while projecting racing lines and braking points onto the head-up display.
Unlike the tighter rear quarters of the four-door coupe, the SUV offers generous rear legroom and headroom across its three-seat bench, which comes with power-folding headrests. Storage is equally practical, offering a 607-litre main boot and a 78-litre front trunk under the bonnet. Cabin options include AMG Performance bucket seats, an electrically dimming panoramic glass roof, custom roof lighting effects, and a Burmester 4D surround sound system.
Launch Timeline and Indian Market Context

Globally, order books are opening first for the entry-level GT 53, while the tri-motor GT 55 and GT 63 are scheduled to hit international showrooms in spring 2027. Mercedes Benz has not yet announced an official launch date or pricing structure for India.
However, India remains a strong market for top-end Mercedes AMG and electric models, with the company recently posting record third-quarter sales in the country. When Mercedes-Benz India eventually brings the GT SUV to local showrooms via the completely built unit import route, likely by late 2027 or early 2028, it will compete directly against ultra-fast electric SUVs like the Lotus Eletre and the recently introduced Porsche Cayenne Electric.
