Tesla has rolled out a performance upgrade for its six-seat Model Y L in the Indian market. The electric crossover now sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 4.5 seconds. That shaves a full half second off the previous 5.0-second benchmark. This complimentary Acceleration Boost applies to all Model Y L units purchased in India on or after October 1, 2026. Buyers get the extra performance without paying a single rupee over the existing Rs 61.99 lakh ex showroom price tag.
2026 Tesla Model Y L Powertrain Upgrade and Unchanged Range

Software-driven performance enhancements are a core part of the Tesla ownership experience globally. For Indian buyers, unlocking this quicker acceleration comes without any mechanical penalty or efficiency loss. The Model Y L continues to utilise a dual motor all wheel drive configuration, which sets it apart from the rear wheel drive setup found on the standard five seat variants sold in the country.
Despite the sharper throttle response and faster launch, the official driving range remains untouched. The six-seat electric SUV still carries a WLTP-certified range of 681 kilometres on a single charge, with a top speed capped at 201 kilometres per hour. In real-world Indian driving conditions, owners can expect roughly 500 to 550 kilometres before needing a plug. Exterior styling and cabin equipment also remain identical to the version introduced in April 2026.
What the Model Y L Offers Indian Buyers

Understanding the appeal of the Model Y L requires looking at how it adapts the standard crossover for Indian family requirements. Imported as a completely built unit from the Shanghai Gigafactory, the L badge stands for Long Wheelbase. The vehicle measures 4,976 millimetres in length and 1,668 millimetres in height. It is 186 millimetres longer and 44 millimetres taller than the standard Model Y. More importantly, engineers stretched the wheelbase by 150 millimetres to reach 3,040 millimetres.
That extra footprint allows Tesla to install a three-row, six-seat layout arranged in a 2+2+2 configuration. The middle row features individual captain chairs equipped with heating, power folding, and inner armrests, catering directly to chauffeur-driven buyers. The third row is best suited for children or short city trips, complete with dedicated air conditioning vents and USB Type C charging ports.
Inside the minimalist cabin, a 16-inch central touchscreen handles almost all vehicle controls, while rear passengers get an 8-inch screen for media and climate adjustments. The feature list includes a 19-speaker audio system, ventilated front seats, a full-length fixed glass roof, a 116-litre front trunk, and up to 2,539 litres of maximum cargo volume with the rear rows folded flat.
2026 Tesla Model Y L Pricing, Financing Plans, and Retail Footprint
This complimentary performance update arrives right as Tesla accelerates its retail push during the Indian festive season. The company recently crossed the 1,000 unit sales milestone in India in early October. Alongside the Rs 61.99 lakh Model Y L, Tesla sells the standard five-seat Model Y Rear Wheel Drive starting at Rs 50.89 lakh ex-showroom, which offers a 500-kilometre WLTP range.
To lower the entry barrier for luxury car buyers, the American EV maker is also promoting structured financing packages. Customers can bring home the Model Y L with an Rs 6.5 lakh down payment and monthly installments starting at Rs 49,990 under a seven-year step-up plan calculated at an 8.5 per cent annual interest rate. Tesla currently supports its Indian customer base through Experience Centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
