Maruti Suzuki eVitara

Maruti Suzuki officially unveiled its first electric SUV in India, the eVitara, in Gurugram, Haryana. The zero-emission SUV, which has already been unveiled in overseas markets, marks the brand’s entry into the Indian electric vehicle segment.

The brand’s first electric car will offer two battery pack options, a 49kWh and a 61kWh, with an ARAI-rated range of up to 543km. The bookings of e-Vitara will open soon, with its launch slated for early 2026. Maruti will also offer the e-SUV via subscription and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) schemes.

New EV Platform

The new eVitara is built on a unique Heartect-e platform that is specifically made for electric vehicles and was created together by Suzuki and Toyota. This architecture, designed for EVs, has features like a flat floor that boosts cabin space, a body structure that is light and strong, and built-in battery protection.

Power and Range

The eVitara is to be offered with two battery packs, just like different versions in other markets: 49 kWh and 61 kWh.

  • The range claimed by the 49 kWh pack is to be 344 km, which is a rather optimistic expectation.
  • The more significant battery of 61 kWh is, however, set to yield a range of up to 543 km.

Both packs are said to support a DC fast charger that charges from 0-80% in about 45 minutes, according to specs from the global versions.

Pricing and Competition

According to market expectations, the price of the eVitara will range from ₹17 Lakh to ₹22.50 Lakh and will be sold at the premium NEXA dealership network of the company and will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV.

Advanced Safety Features

The eVitara sets the bar high in terms of safety in Maruti Suzuki and becomes the first car in the Indian lineup from the brand to come equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Also gets an Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Automatic Emergency Braking; this package would go a long way in improving the level of driver assistance.

Further, the standard safety package on this SUV is exhaustive: it comprises up to seven airbags (including driver knee airbag), a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake, and all-wheel disc brakes.

The electric SUV recently underwent crash testing under Bharat NCAP and emerged with a full 5-star safety rating, marking a major safety milestone for Maruti Suzuki. The safety performance was strong in all the test areas with the following percentages: 77% for Adult Occupant Protection, 85% for Child Occupant Protection, 79% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 72% for Safety Assist features.

Interiors Details

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara has a two-tone finish and excellent quality materials on the inside. A two-spoke multi-function steering wheel and four chrome-bezel-lined vertically stacked AC vents are there. The premium look of the e-Vitara’s interior is also due to the use of glossy black touches throughout the cabin. The EV gets seven exterior colour options, four of which are dual-tone combinations.

Performance Details

The eVitara offers different power outputs depending on the chosen drivetrain. It also becomes the first model in its segment to feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option. With the larger 61 kWh battery, the SUV provides an impressive ARAI-certified range of 543 km. Maruti Suzuki will sell the eVitara in both 2WD and 4WD (ALLGRIP-e) versions, with the 4WD variant using dual e-axles to enhance traction and overall performance.

Battery Pack Drivetrain Power Output Torque Output
49 kWh Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) 142 bhp 193 Nm
61 kWh FWD 171 bhp 193 Nm
61 kWh All-Wheel Drive (AWD) 181 bhp 307 Nm

Rivals and Exports

The eVitara’s entry into the Indian market will be challenged by strong competition from the already existing rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and the Mahindra BE 6. The Maruti Suzuki car plant situated at Hansalpur in Gujarat has commenced manufacturing eVitara for 12 European countries and has set up plans for over 100 countries worldwide.
