Intro
Mahindra has taken a concrete step toward expanding its future utility vehicle lineup by patenting the design for the Vision T SUV in India. Originally showcased as a concept alongside the Vision S and Vision SXT, the Vision T generated steady interest for its old-school, upright aesthetics and future-ready mechanicals. With the design patent now officially filed, it is clear that the automaker intends to keep the final production model remarkably similar to the concept vehicle. Expected to enter production in 2027, the Vision T signals Mahindra’s strategy to build tough, adaptable vehicles that can seamlessly transition between traditional combustion engines and electric power.
Retaining the Concept’s Design Language

Automakers typically tend to refine such concept cars before they hit the production lines, which does not appear to be the case with the Vision T. The production model still features an identical angular design, featuring a flat bonnet and short overhangs as well as pronounced wheel arches. Being over 4 metres long, the SUV is sure to leave a strong impression on the roads. Additionally, patents have revealed a new design of a steering wheel that will most likely be featured in the Vision T.
The Flexible NU_IQ Architecture
The backbone of the Vision T is Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform. Instead of creating separate chassis structures for different fuels, this multi-energy architecture is designed to be highly modular. Mahindra can equip the Vision T with a traditional internal combustion engine (petrol or diesel) as well as a fully electric powertrain. This allows Mahindra to cater to a wide audience without compromising the vehicle’s structural integrity.
Geared for Off-Road Terrain
Aligned well with Mahindra’s inherent DNA, the Vision T is being developed as a purpose-built off-roader rather than a crossover for urban environments. From the mechanical perspective, the SUV should come with a low-range gear system, all-wheel drive, and an electronic differential. This combination, along with off-road-biased tyres and specific driving modes, should ensure that the vehicle is extremely capable off-road.
