      Honda ZR-V Hybrid: Overview

The Honda ZR-V is a self-charging strong hybrid SUV built around a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a dual-motor electric setup. Priced at Rs 47.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it operates using an e-CVT transmission and automatically alternates between electric drive, hybrid drive, and engine drive depending on road conditions.

How the Honda ZR-V Hybrid System Works

The Honda ZR-V e:HEV uses an intelligent dual-motor hybrid system paired with a 2.0-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, an electric continuously variable transmission (e-CVT), and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery.

The system automatically transitions between three distinct driving modes based on speed and throttle input to keep the car operating efficiently:

      • EV Drive Mode: At low speeds, during initial pull-away, or when coasting in urban traffic, the vehicle runs exclusively on electric power supplied by the battery to the traction motor. The petrol engine remains off, delivering a quiet, zero-emission drive.
      • Hybrid Drive Mode: When you need more performance and tap hard on the accelerator, the petrol engine starts up to drive an onboard generator motor. This generator produces electricity to power the electric drive motor. In this scenario, the lithium-ion battery supplies additional power if maximum acceleration is needed.
      • Engine Drive Mode: During steady high-speed highway cruising, where petrol engines naturally operate at peak thermal efficiency, a clutch engages to connect the 2.0-litre engine directly to the front drive wheels.

      Regenerative Braking and Deceleration Control

Every time you lift off the accelerator or press the brake pedal, the electric traction motor converts kinetic energy back into electricity. This energy is fed directly into the lithium-ion battery to store power for the next drive cycle. Drivers can adjust the level of regenerative braking resistance using the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.

      Honda ZRV Features Explained

      Honda ZRV Exterior

The ZRV is not a traditional boxy SUV. It rather has a more crossover, albeit sporty stance, which is further accentuated by its sleek headlamps and grille.

      • Front Fascia: Sleek front grille featuring prominent vertical slats, flanked by strong lines flowing towards the bonnet while housing the full LED headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and sequential front LED turn signals. The front bumper also includes integrated air curtains to guide airflow.
      • Rear Styling: Highlighted by full LED tail lamps flowing into the tailgate and a gun-metallic skid garnish on the rear bumper alongside a dual-outlet exhaust pipe finisher.
      • Wheels: 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 R18 tubeless radial tyres.
      • Mirrors: Auto-folding, power-adjustable ORVMs with integrated LED turn indicators, a welcome function, and an auto reverse tilt function on the passenger-side mirror.

      Honda ZRV Interior & Comfort

The interior of the Honda ZR-V also carries the rather sporty theme with all-black leather upholstery with contrast stitching and soft-padded surfaces across the dashboard, door pads, and centre console.

      • Seating & Space: Includes an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with two memory presets linked to the key fob, along with a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The rear seats feature a 60:40 split-fold design that creates up to 1,313 litres of total cargo space when folded flat. A rear centre fold-down armrest with cup holders is included.
      • Climate Control: Fully automatic dual-zone climate control system with physical control dials. Rear AC vents are also present, and so is an integrated cabin air filter designed to capture PM2.5, pollen, and dust.
      • Centre Console & Layout: Features a leather-wrapped steering wheel with metal-finished paddle shifters to control regeneration. It gets a high-deck central console with an electronic button gear selector, extending to the front central armrest with internal storage. There’s also dedicated utility space for smartphones.
      • Tailgate & Convenience: Equipped with a powered tailgate with hands-free kick-gesture access and a walk-away auto-close feature. The cabin includes a wireless smartphone charging pad, ambient door and footwell lighting, capacitive-touch rear spot lamps, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
      • Drive Modes: There is a drive mode selector on the console that enables drivers to select the drive modes ( ECON, NORMAL, or SPORT).

      Honda ZRV Infotainment & Connectivity

      Honda ZR-V Phev Infotainment

      • Central Screen: Has a 9-inch floating infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. In addition, the central screen also displays live graphs of power flow from the hybrid engine.
      • Driver Display: has a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display screen with configurable gauges. It displays a digital speedometer, fuel efficiency details, driving range, audio info, and active driver assistance systems.
      • Audio System: 12-speaker Bose surround sound system that includes 4 door speakers, 4 tweeters, 2 rear satellite speakers, 1 front centre speaker, and 1 subwoofer.
      • Charging Ports & Controls: Includes a front USB Type-A input port, a front USB Type-C charging port, a rear USB Type-C charging port, a 12V accessory power socket, and illuminated steering-wheel-mounted control switches.

      Honda ZRV Safety

Safety technology in the Honda ZR-V is divided between passive structural design, active braking electronics, and camera-based driver assistance systems.

      • Airbag & Structural Protection: Standard equipment includes an 8-airbag setup (dual front, front seat side, side curtain, and front knee airbags) built within an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. All five seating positions get 3-point ELR seatbelts with reminders and head restraints alongside ISOFIX child seat lower anchorages on the rear side seats.
      • Honda SENSING (Level 2 ADAS): Uses camera and radar detection to provide six Advanced Driver Assistance features:
      1. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): Notifies the driver and brakes when there is a potential frontal collision.
      2. Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow: Automatically maintains speed and distance from the vehicle ahead.
      3. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): Helps in steering correction and ensures that the car remains in its lane.
      4. Road Departure Mitigation System: Notifies the driver and makes corrective steering inputs if the car exits the road line.
      5. Auto High-Beam: Switches between low beam and high beam according to oncoming traffic.
      6. Lead Car Departure Notification System: Notifies the driver if the vehicle ahead begins to move after being stationary.
      • Visibility & Parking Aids:
      1. 360-degree camera with dynamic guidelines
      2. Front and rear parking sensors
      3. Driver Attention Monitor
      4. Rain-sensing auto wipers with integrated washer nozzles
      • Braking & Dynamics:
      1. Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with automatic brake hold
      2. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control
      3. Agile Handling Assist (AHA)
      4. Hill Start Assist (HSA)
      5. Hill Descent Control (HDC)
      6. Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)
      7. Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) (sounds a low-speed chime when driivng in pure EV mode to alert pedestrians)
