The electric SUV in India landscape is changing dramatically. What used to be a space with only ICE vehicles being offered, is now being dominated by electric options as well. Earlier, ‘range anxiety’ was a thing, but with an influx of electric SUVs in India under ₹20 lakhs offering a range enough for daily commutes or a long weekend trip, that has been taken care of.

If you’re looking for the best electric SUV in India to buy, here are our top 6 picks from the lot for 2026.

1. MG ZS EV – Starting Price: ₹17.99 Lakhs

This SUV from the British carmaker was one of the first mass-market EVs to be sold in India. While the overall design looks similar to its ICE counterpart, the Astor, under the hood, it gets a very capable electric drivetrain. Here are the key details:

SpecificationsMG ZS EV
Power177PS
Torque280Nm
Battery capacity50.3kWh
Range (claimed)461km
Fast charging (0 to 80%)1 hour using 50kW charging
Standard charging~9 hours using 7.4kW charging

As for the features, you get a refined cabin loaded with features like dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto AC with rear vents, 75+ connected car features, and much more.

On the safety front, this SUV has scored a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP, making it one of the safest electric SUVs in India. It features 6 airbags, Level 2 ADAS (in the Essence trim), and a 360° camera with “transparent hood” functionality.

As for the variants, you get to choose between Executive, Excite Pro, Exclusive Plus, and Essence trims. The 50.3kWh battery pack is standard across all the trims.

2. Maruti Suzuki eVitara – Starting Price: ₹15.99 Lakhs

Maruti Suzuki entered the electric vehicle space quite late, and every one was eagerly waiting for it, especially the Indian dads, who swear by Maruti Suzuki, even in their sleep. The eVitara comes loaded with features and a design that some might like, while others might have a different opinion. Nevertheless, it looks sophisticatedly European. Let’s take a look at what this eSUV has to offer:

SpecificationsMaruti Suzuki eVitara
Power170PS
Torque193Nm
Battery capacity61kWh
Range (claimed)543km
Fast charging (10 to 80%)45 mins
Standard charging~9 hours (7.2kW charging)

The Maruti Suzuki eVitara is built on a dedicated electric platform with a ‘High-tech x Adventure’ cabin that offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, fixed glass roof,

In terms of safety, you get 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS for the top variant. If you are willing to purchase eVitara but have a lower budget, you can also choose the BAAS program, under which you only pay for the vehicle and the battery payment is done in installments, based on your usage. Under BaaS, the pricing for Maruti Suzuki eVitara is ₹10.99 lakhs + ₹3.99 per km for battery.

3. Mahindra BE6 – Starting Price: ₹18.9 Lakhs

The born-electric SUV from the Indian carmaker is doing wonders in terms of sales, helping Mahindra climb up the ladder. The aggressive design philosophy, paired with an electric drivetrain with a great potential, makes the Mahindra BE6 a great choice for someone looking for just more than a family electric SUV. Here are the key details:

SpecificationsMahindra BE6
Power231PS
Torque380Nm
Battery capacity59kWh
Range (claimed)683km
Fast charging (0 to 80%)20 mins (140kW DC fast charging)
Standard charging~6 hours (11.2kW charging)

The range anxiety takes a toll when the BE6 enters the chat. The certified range goes beyond 650kms, which means if you’re going to drive it daily, for about 50 kms a day, you will only have to charge it once every 8 days or so! That is the beauty of owning and electric SUV, and that too a Mahindra BE6.

As for the features, you get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, auto park assist, in-car camera, automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, etc.

For safety, Mahindra BE6 is loaded with features like 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, driver state monitoring system, and level-2 ADAS as well. It has scored an impressive 5-star rating at the Bharat NCAP crash testing.

4. Vinfast VF6 – Starting Price: ₹17.29 Lakhs

The latest entrant to the sub-20 lakhs electric SUV space is the Vietnamese SUV, the Vinfast VF6. It is a tech-loaded and minimalist yet futuristic SUV that offers great value for money, especially with the latest campaign where you can exchange your ICE vehicle for a Vinfast EV and get heavy discounts. Let’s take a look at the key specs:

SpecificationsVinfast VF6
Power201PS
Torque310Nm
Battery capacity59.6kWh
Range (claimed)463km
Fast charging (10 to 80%)25 mins
Standard charging~8.5 hours (7.2kW charging)

One of the most unique things about the Vinfast VF6 is that it has no driver’s display. Instead, all the information is displayed on the 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which also comes with integrated Google apps and a voice assistant. It also gets a large panoramic sunroof that is fixed. You get other features like remote functions via smartphone, push button start/stop, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming IRVMs, etc.

For safety, Vinfast has loaded the VF6 with up to 7 airbags, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, and ADAS level-2 features like lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, etc. Vinfast VF6 has scored an impressive 5-star rating at the Bharat NCAP crash testing.

5. Hyundai Creta Electric – Starting Price: ₹18.02 Lakhs

The South Korean carmaker introduced the electric version of one of its most popular SUVs, the Creta. It is a family oriented SUV that offers great comfort for all the occupants. Here are the key performance specs:

SpecificationsHyundai Creta
Power171PS
Torque255Nm
Battery capacity51.4kWh
Range (claimed)510km
Fast charging (10 to 80%)58 mins (50kW charging)
Standard charging~4 hours 50 mins (11kW charging)

While it might not be the most thrill-inducing SUVs on the list, it does offer a great deal of comfort and convenience features. It boasts a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 8-speaker Bose Surround System, panoramic sunroof, front seat ventilation, 8-way powered driver seat and 6-way powered co-driver seat, electric boss mode to control the front passenger seat, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, rain-sensing wipers, etc.

You get standard safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, driver attention warning, etc.

6. Tata Curvv EV – Starting Price: ₹17.49 Lakhs

Last but not the least, the brand that brought electric SUVs to mainstream, Tata Motors cannot be left out of this list for sure. The Indian carmaker offers the Curvv EV at a starting price of Rs. 17.49 lakhs, which sits right in the budget we’re looking at. Let’s take a look at the key performance specs of the eSUV:

SpecificationsTata Curvv EV
Power167PS
Torque215Nm
Battery capacity55kWh
Range (claimed)502km
Fast charging (10 to 80%)40 mins (70kW charging)
Standard charging~8 hours (7.2kW charging)

Tata Curvv EV comes with a 15-year warranty on the battery, which is highly essential to gain the trust of the potential buyers. While the overall interior quality could have been better, it does offer impressive features like 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 9-speaker JBL setup, front seat ventilation, air purifier, a panoramic sunroof, etc.

On the safety front, the Tata Curvv EV has scored a 5-star rating at the Bharat NCAP, ensuring the legacy of safe cars by Tata. You get safety features like 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, 360-degree camera, blind-view monitor, Level-2 ADAS, and much more.

Notable mentions

Not exactly SUVs, but cars like the MG Windsor and Kia Carens Clavis EV can also be a good pick, if you are not hell-bent on the SUV stance. Both of these offer a plethora of features and space enough to relax and enjoy with your whole family.

Which one of the electric SUVs in India would you pick? Is it going to be the tech-loaded Vinfast VF6 or the dad-approved Maruti Suzuki eVitara? Or will you be going with the sport-oriented Mahindra BE6? Whatever electric SUV you pick, one thing is for sure, your running cost will be lower than the ICE counterparts, you will not have to worry about the fuel crisis, and you will surely be helping the environment by choosing a green alternative. Kudos and happy e-motoring!
