Intro
Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90, is all set to arrive on Indian shores by August 2026. But before its official launch, the Swedish has showcased the model at the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show, providing a thorough look at what buyers are likely to get from the new premium SUV. The EX90 is the brand’s biggest electric SUV, combining a large battery with powerful electric motors and a suite of next-generation safety sensors.
Battery, Range, and Performance

The EX90 is powered by a 111 kWh battery pack. This battery drives a twin-motor all-wheel-drive system, making up to 386 kW (517 bhp) and 910 Nm of torque combined.
Volvo claims the EX90 has a WLTP-certified range of up to 600 km on a full charge. In terms of charging, the SUV has quick charging capabilities. The 2026 model may also benefit from an updated 800-volt electrical design, which could replace the previous 400-volt system and enable for even faster charging speeds, providing up to 250 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes.
Furthermore, the EX90 has bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing the vehicle’s battery to power external equipment or even charge another EV.
Next-Generation Safety and Lidar
Volvo has created a reputation for safety, and the EX90 pushes those boundaries even further. The SUV has a full sensor suite, including typical cameras and radars, but the highlight feature is a roof-mounted lidar unit. This is the first time a Volvo car has been equipped with lidar. This powerful sensor can identify small things hundreds of metres ahead, even at highway speeds and in low-light settings.
Interior Tech and Connectivity

Inside the interior, the dashboard is dominated by a 14.5-inch center touchscreen running a Google-powered operating system. For audiophiles, the SUV comes with a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system, supporting Dolby Atmos and speakers inserted directly into the headrests for an immersive listening experience.
Conclusion
Volvo’s intentions with the Indian electric market have been prevalent since a fair amount of time now with models like the XC40 Recharge. Launching the flagship EX90 will help the Swedish brand establish a strong EV portfolio. Sitting at the very top of Volvo’s electric portfolio, joining the EX30 and EC40, it will offer true seven-seat practicality, 600km range, and pioneering safety technology such as lidar. While the specific version selection and pricing for the Indian market will be disclosed closer to the August debut date, the EX90 is expected to cost around Rs 1.5 crore.
