JLR (Jaquar Land Rover) pulled the wraps off the Range Rover GT, a model unlike anything the luxury brand has produced before. It has been conceived as a long-distance, comfortable, quiet grand tourer that combines the sleek proportions and luxury of a Land Rover.
The Range Rover GT becomes the fifth member of the Range Rover family, following the flagship Range Rover, Sport, Velar and Evoque. Unlike its siblings, however, it has a much lower stance and coupé-inspired bodylines that prioritise aerodynamic efficiency.
Sleeker Than A Porsche
After the wraps came off, the biggest talking point about the GT was its proportions. It is the lowest Range Rover ever built and is even sleeker and lower than a Porsche Macan. The brand also claims that the wheelbase is even longer than the flagship Range Rover Sport, of which an electric prototype was recently unveiled at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed 2026.

First Range Rover To Be Built On The EMA Platform
Unlike the upcoming Range Rover Sport Electric, which uses JLR’s MLA platform, the GT is underpinned by the brand-new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA). Because this is a dedicated EV platform, this allows the engineers to package the battery under the floorboard in a single layer, rather than stacking it up vertically. All of this results in a lower seating position, more cabin space, better weight distribution, and even a front storage compartment (frunk). The brand also confirmed that this new EMA platform will underpin several models in the near future.
Inside The Cabin
Inside the cabin, the Range Rover GT gets a minimalist design, with a bunch of modern features, like:
- Large central OLED touchscreen
- Compact digital driver display
- Hidden full-width air vents
- Textile-wrapped dashboard with concealed speakers
- Largest panoramic glass roof ever fitted to a Range Rover
- More than enough rear headroom despite the sloping roofline
What We Think
The GT has now deviated from Range Rover’s SUV legacy and ditched it for utmost comfort. Rather than competing directly with conventional luxury SUVs, the Range Rover GT focuses on long-distance comfort in a body style that prioritises elegance over ruggedness. If the production model delivers on its promise of exceptional quietness and spaciousness, it could be a turnaround for Land Rover, and rack up substantial sales when launched
