Tata Motors has officially confirmed the launch window for the highly anticipated Tata Sierra EV. Speaking during the company’s recent earnings call, Passenger Vehicles MD and CEO Shailesh Chandra confirmed that the electric iteration of the iconic SUV will arrive in the second quarter of the 2027 financial year.
The Sierra EV will be Tata’s sixth all-electric offering, and is tasked with competing in a fiercely contested, modern 4.2 to 4.5-metre electric utility segment against more popular cars like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, and Mahindra’s BE lineup.
Tata Sierra EV: What to Expect
The Sierra EV will be built on Tata’s dedicated Acti.EV+ electric skateboard architecture. Aesthetically, the Sierra EV retains the same boxy, upright proportions and the signature wrap-around rear-glass design that defined its 90s predecessor (The OG Tata Sierra). However, the electric variant differentiates itself from the ICE model through a closed-off, body-coloured front fascia, aerodynamic wheel designs, and distinct LED light bar treatments.
The Sierra EV is expected to be offered with a 55 kWh battery pack shared with the Curvv EV, which has a claimed driving range of 502 km. Tata might also consider offering the 65 kWh battery pack, that lower variants of the Harrier EV get.
Furthermore, Tata Motors might offer the higher battery pack option with a dual-motor, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setup aimed at buyers who want utmost performance, and capability.
Inside the cabin, the Sierra EV will feature a triple-screen layout, comprising a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch central infotainment unit, and a dedicated entertainment screen for the front passenger.
Expect a comprehensive set of safety equipment, including a Level 2 ADAS suite.
Sierra EV Expected Price
The arrival of the Sierra EV comes at a critical time for Tata Motors. The company closed FY26 with a dominant 40.2% EV market share.
The pricing for the Tata Sierra EV is expected to start a bit over the Curvv EV as we have already seen Tata Motors justifying the premium positioning of the Sierra ICE version.
With the Sierra EV, Tata Motors is aiming to secure its dominance in the premium sub-Rs 25 lakh bracket before initiating the rollout of its ultra-premium ‘Avinya’ brand in 2027.
Expected to be priced upwards of Rs 15 lakh and between Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom), the Sierra EV could also feature Baas option for lower upfront costs.
