Kia has released the first official teaser images for the EV2, its new entry-level electric SUV, ahead of its global debut on January 9 at the Brussels Motor Show. The model is expected to become the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle globally, targeting customers seeking a practical, city-friendly EV.
Teaser Shows Boxy, Urban-Focused Design
The fresh photos confirm that the EV2 will remain close to Kia’s earlier prototype. The SUV boasts a clean, upright silhouette with short overhangs, robust cladding, and a tough skid plate in the front. Vertical LED headlamps and low-mounted taillights offer it a distinct visual identity in its size class.
While the idea had rear-hinged doors for easy cabin access, the production version is planned to use conventional doors. The overall style, however, remains youthful and practical, in keeping with the EV2’s role as an everyday compact EV.
Expected Specifications
Kia has not revealed exact specifications, but reports indicate that the EV2 will use a 400-volt electric architecture rather than the more expensive 800-volt system found in the brand’s luxury EVs. This shows that Kia intends to keep prices reasonable, and the industry experts suggest the EV is expected to get
- A single motor and front-wheel drive segment
- Battery capacity: Between 40 and 50 kWh
- Range: 350-400 km (WLTP)
These details indicate that the EV2 will be squarely in the “urban mobility” category, with enough range for daily commuting and quick trips.
Expected Launch
Kia has already patented the ‘EV2’ name in India, resulting in speculation about its local introduction. The compact EV segment is gaining traction in the country, and if Kia decides to bring the EV2 model, it may become the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle option. Kia has yet to provide a timeline or official confirmation for the Indian market.
Brand Strategy and Launch
The EV2 is going to be the brands overall strategy to extend its global electric car lineup. The EV2 model, is positioned below models like the EV3 and EV5, which intended to target the first-time EV buyers and compete in a EV market where price and practicality, is something people are looking for. The EV2 might fill an important need in an country like India, where compact electric vehicles are gaining popularity.
Kia will introduce the production-ready EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show, on January 9, 2026. The event will give the first look at the model’s interior, features, battery specifications, charging capabilities, and global rollout plans.
