Yamaha has officially stepped into India’s electric two-wheeler market with the EC-06. The EC-06 serves urban riders who prioritise range and convenience over other aspects of their experience at a price of ₹1.67 lakh, including ex-showroom charges. Instead of chasing headline speed figures, Yamaha has focused on making a practical city scooter. Here’s what you need to know.
Yamaha EC-06 Key features
The EC-06 comes with a 4kWh fixed battery that Yamaha says can deliver up to 169km on a full charge. Power comes from an IPMSM electric motor producing 6.7 kW and 26 Nm of torque. Top speed is rated at 79 km/h, which feels well-suited to everyday city traffic rather than highway runs.
Yamaha has equipped the scooter with three ride modes: Eco, Standard, and Power. There’s also a Reverse Mode, a genuinely helpful feature when backing out of tight parking spots or narrow lanes.
The EC-06 is built on a steel frame and has a telescopic front suspension and dual rear shock absorbers. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends, supported by a Combi Brake System, keeping things straightforward and commuter-friendly.
The electric vehicle features full LED lighting, an LCD instrument cluster with connectivity, and 24.5 litres of underseat storage. Charging from a standard home socket takes approximately 8 hours. Yamaha provides a battery warranty of three years or 30,000 kilometres.
Limited Availability at Launch
At launch, the EC-06 will be available only at select Blue Square dealerships, as Yamaha plans to keep it positioned as a premium city scooter rather than a mass-market model.
What do the leaders have to say?
Mr Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, commented on the announcement, saying, “The EC-06 marks an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility.”
As India accelerates its transition to a carbon-neutral future under the government’s visionary leadership, Yamaha is happy to contribute to this national cause through high-quality electric innovation. It is designed for daily travel and strikes a mix between efficiency and performance, with an amazing range and intuitive features. Yamaha’s first-of-its-kind motorcycle demonstrates how sustainability and riding excitement can coexist—true to our brand concept and our responsibility to foster the growth of India’s green economy.”
