Rumours regarding the much-anticipated Tata Sierra EV have started circulating again in the Indian EV industry. Several media houses and social media discussions suggest that the brand could launch the much-awaited electric SUV soon. However, before the enthusiast in you gets too excited, it’s important to note that the brand has not made any official announcement regarding this yet.
The whole country has been waiting for the Tata Sierra EV, making it one of the most eagerly awaited models in the brand’s history, ever since the brand unveiled its production-ready avatar back in Auto Expo 2023. As it carries the legendary ‘Sierra’ nameplate, it is quite an important model for the brand and will definitely play a key role in Tata’s future electric lineup.
What Is The Rumour?
The latest buzz on the internet suggests that Tata could launch the Sierra EV on June 30, which would also be the brand’s largest and most important launch for 2026. But there has been no official teaser, media invite, or any announcement from Tata Motors to back this claim.
And, due to these reasons, or should we say lack of proof, we think this launch date is just speculation, rather than a confirmed launch schedule.
More Info About The Sierra EV
The Tata Sierra EV is expected to be built on the brand’s Acti.ev + platform, which currently underpins the popular Tata Harrier EV. It will also get two different battery packs ()with a claimed range of more than 500 km. It is also speculated that the Sierra EV will be offered in both single and dual-motor configurations with an AWD (All Wheel Drive) system.
The feature suite is expected to include a dual-screen cabin layout, Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and a panoramic sunroof and is also expected to pack a bunch of safety features.
Where Will The Sierra Sit in Tata’s Lineup?
When it is launched, the Tata Sierra EV will sit just above the Tata Curvv.ev in the brand’s electric lineup. Its expected price will most likely start somewhere around 17-18 lakh, as Tata freed up the price bracket by reducing the price of the Tata Curvv EV a while ago. Higher variants of the Sierra EV are expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh. In our opinion, the Sierra EV will be a game changer for Tata and will directly rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, the VinFast VF 6, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, the MG ZS EV, the Mahindra BE 6 and the Maruti Suzuki eVitara.
What We Think Of This
As of now, there is no official confirmation or evidence confirming the Sierra EV’s launch on June 30. But we do think that the Sierra EV is definitely near the production spec, as it has been spied testing on Indian roads quite a few times. But we think until Tata Motors makes an announcement, this just remains as another rumour.
