Just days before its official debut, new details about the Tata Sierra EV have surfaced online. According to a recent report, the base variant of Tata’s upcoming electric SUV – the Tata Sierra EV, will be equipped with a 65 kWh battery pack. What makes this so interesting? It would be the largest battery pack offered in the base trim of an electric SUV in the mid-size electric segment. Also, with its debut on June 30, the Tata Sierra EV will be the seventh all-electric car in the brand’s portfolio.
65 kWh Battery For Tata Sierra EV Base Variant
The biggest takeaway from this latest news is that buyers opting for the base variant won’t have to compromise on battery capacity. The Tata Sierra EV is expected to use the same 65 kWh lithium-ion battery from the Tata Harrier EV. The claimed driving range for this battery pack is over 500 km on a single charge, which is translated to a real-world driving range of around 430-450 km, which is a decent figure considering the expected price of the base variant. But, we think this number could get a small bump, as the Sierra EV could get a more optimised powertrain.
Higher Variants To Get Bigger Battery And AWD
The top-end variants of the Tata Sierra EV are expected to come equipped with a larger 75 kWh battery pack paired with Tata’s dual-motor, QWD (Quad Wheel Drive) powertrain (essentially the all-wheel-drive system). Tata has already confirmed through official teasers that the Sierra EV will be offered with an AWD system, just like the Harrier EV.
Premium Features Expected
The upcoming Sierra EV is expected to share much of its technology with the brand’s latest premium models. The expected feature suite includes:
- Triple-screen dashboard layout
- Panoramic sunroof
- Level 2 ADAS
- 360-degree camera
- Ventilated front seats
- Connected car technology
- Premium audio system
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality
Expected Pricing
Tata Sierra EV’s expected price could start from Rs 15 lakh form the base variant and then go up till Rs 25 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom) for the top-end QWD variant. At this price point, the Sierra EV will rival the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and MG ZS EV, and could also cannibalise the sales of Tata’s own cars like the Tata Curvv EV, and the Tata Harrier EV.
