Volkswagen ID Tiguan Makes Its Global Debut
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID Tiguan, its newest electric SUV that replaces the existing Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 in the brand’s global lineup. This new e-SUV is built on the MEB+ architecture and gets a complete redesign, a more practical cabin and alos the latest tech suite.
Interestingly, Volkswagen is also moving away from its earlier EV naming strategy. Rather than continuing with numbered model names, the company is using its established Tiguan badge to make the electric SUV more familiar to potential buyers. The ID Tiguan will be sold alongside the petrol, diesel and hybrid-powered Tiguan in international markets.
Volkswagen ID Tiguan Battery, Range And Performance

The ID Tiguan will be offered in three powertrain configurations, including RWD (rear-wheel-drive) and AWD (all-wheel-drive) options. The entry-level RWD model produces 190 PS (140 kW), while the larger 77 kWh battery is offered with either a 286 PS (210 kW) rear-wheel-drive powertrain or a 299 PS (220 kW), dual-motor 4MOTION AWD setup. Volkswagen claims a maximum 600 km WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) range, although individual variant-wise range figures haven’t been detailed.

Completely New Interior With Physical Buttons

One of the biggest changes in the ID Tiguan is the cabin experience. Volkswagen has introduced a completely redesigned dashboard featuring a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15-inch central touchscreen and an optional 12-inch passenger display.
However, the more interesting update is the return of physical controls. The ID Tiguan gets conventional buttons for climate control, physical steering-wheel switches and a dedicated controller for adjusting audio volume. Volkswagen has also introduced a rather unusual ‘Retro’ display mode, which recreates instrument-cluster themes inspired by older models, including the fourth-generation Golf.
Other highlights include:
- Ventilated and massaging front seats
- Harman Kardon sound system
- Connected Travel Assist
- One-pedal driving
- Digital Key functionality
- Vehicle-to-Load capability
- Two wireless smartphone chargers
Practicality hasn’t been overlooked either. The electric SUV offers a 534-litre boot and an additional 32-litre frunk, which should make it a lot more practical, and easy to live with.
Volkswagen ID Tiguan Gets A More Traditional SUV Design

The ID Tiguan adopts the brand’s latest ‘Pure Positive’ design philosophy, replacing the softer crossover styling of the outgoing ID. 4. It gets a more upright front end, slimmer LED headlights, connected lighting elements and more pronounced body surfaces. Another noteworthy change is the return of conventional pull-type door handles, replacing the flush-style approach seen on several modern EVs. The overall design gives the ID Tiguan a more traditional SUV stance while retaining its electric character.
Volkswagen ID Tiguan Price And India Launch
Volkswagen will initially begin pre-sales in Germany on October 13, 2026, with prices starting at €42,695 (global price), which is around Rs 50 lakh. It is scheduled to reach European dealership shores in early 2027, with four feature trims: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.
Volkswagen hasn’t announced an India launch timeline or pricing for the ID Tiguan yet, but we are quite certain that it might come to India. The ID Tiguan, instead of focusing exclusively on futuristic styling and touch-heavy controls, is bringing back familiar design elements and physical buttons, so it has a very good chance to dominate the sales charts when launched.
With up to 600 km of claimed range, three powertrain options and a more practical interior, the ID Tiguan appears to address several criticisms of Volkswagen’s earlier EVs, which should make owning it a hassle-free experience.
