- MG has revealed a new powertrain and tech platform strategy.
- The new MG technology is expected to arrive as soon as 2027.
- The systems to be offered are based on MG’s SolidCore Tech.
MG takes charge of developing what seems to be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain platform and advancing its driver assistance technologies, revealing its strategic approach for new-age solutions. The PHEV systems, solid-state battery tech and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) under focus are expected to hit the market, featuring MG’s vehicles in the latter part of 2027.
At the core of the development, MG’s aforementioned platform and technologies will integrate new 1.1-litre and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engines. These engines will be paired to a hybrid transmission system with different driving outputs (pure electric or ICE-derived performance).
As per reports, the PHEV powertrain is designed for efficiency, while delivering strong torque performance and a quieter driving experience. The vehicle to first feature this will be the 2027 ZS Plug-in Hybrid+.
The MG SolidCore Tech | What To Expect In 2027?
MG also pointed out that its first PHEV vehicles for 2027 will feature the SolidCore Technology. SolidCore Tech is a semi-solid battery technology with advanced performance capacities, faster charging potential, higher range performance and thermal stability. In fact, it is believed that 3 different SUVs across various segments will feature this advanced tech integration in 2027.
The MG Roadmap | A Plan Beyond EV Cars?
MG has not just prioritised electric powertrain testing and integrations but has also focused on advanced ADAS tech that is beyond the regular equipment integration. It has collected over 1.2 million km of real-world operating data across 24 different countries in Europe. A key feature of the tested system is the ability to handle multiple parking scenarios featuring an automated parking system. The aggregate also features park-out assist and reversing memory up to 100 metres.
Conclusion | The India Strategy Explained:
Although these systems are prioritised for the European markets, this is also a strong indication that MG will feature such advanced PHEV and ADAS systems for its Indian car portfolio. Given that this manufacturer is focused on EV technologies and advanced mobility, some of these feature integrations are expected to hit MG’s Indian car market. Nevertheless, MG currently offers the Comet EV, Windsor EV, and ZS EV, alongside other ICE cars in its lineup.
