Ather Energy has built a solid reputation in the premium electric scooter market. While many enthusiasts have been eager to see the brand apply its engineering to a full-sized electric motorcycle, that reveal will require a bit more patience. Recent updates suggest the Bengaluru-based manufacturer has adjusted the timeline for its Zenith motorcycle project. Rather than taking the wraps off a concept this year, Ather is dedicating its immediate resources to expanding its reach in the high-volume, accessible scooter segment.
The Zenith Motorcycle Project
Back in 2024, Ather officially confirmed it was developing a new electric motorcycle architecture called the Zenith platform.
The objective for this platform will be to make electric motorcycles that have similar levels of performance, acceleration, and maximum speed compared to conventional fuel-powered motorcycles from 125cc to 300cc.
Similar to the 450X that set the reputation of Ather, the upcoming motorcycle is anticipated to emphasise heavily on driver interaction and connectivity features. The earlier indications were pointing towards an unveiling concept on the upcoming Ather Community Day, scheduled for August 29, 2026. However, as per industry sources, the company is now planning to postpone the unveiling of the motorcycle to 2027.
Focusing on the Mass Market
The adjusted timeline for the motorcycle concept is a strategic response to current buyer trends in India. The move to electric mobility is currently driven by scooters, making it a much larger and more practical space for immediate growth than electric motorcycles.
The company’s primary focus has moved to the upcoming EL01 scooter platform. While Ather already has a strong hold on the premium end of the market (prices above Rs 1.50 lakh), there is significant room to grow in the affordable bracket. The new EL01 will be a practical, mass-market electric scooter which will likely carry a price tag priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh. This positions the brand to compete directly for volume against established rivals in the family segment such as the TVS iQube, and the Bajaj Chetak.
