2027 KTM Freeride E Unveiled: More Power, Less Weight

KTM has unveiled the 2027 Freeride E, which now gets more power, and better range, making it even more capable than before. It is also street-legal now.

      Quick Reads

      • Makes 19.2 kW of peak power
      • Offers 2-3 hours of offroad riding range
      • Weighs just 112 kg despite getting a massive 5.5kWh battery pack
      • The bike offers over 1000 charging cycles before dropping to 80% efficiency
      • Deliveries to start later this month

KTM has taken the wraps off the 2027 KTM Freeride E — the latest iteration of its flagship electric enduro bike. With this update, the electric bike gets a bigger battery pack, makes more power, and is now legal for street use, which makes it even more versatile when compared with traditional dirt e-bikes.

New Motor, Bigger Battery, And Longer Ride Time

The 2027 KTM Freeride E gets a new mid-mounted electric motor that is dust and waterproof. The motor puts out 19.2kW of peak power and 37.6 Nm of peak torque. The bike has three riding modes that modulate the power delivery and gets three levels of regenerative braking for better control. The bike can reach a top speed of 95km/h, that too in off-road conditions.

The new KTM Freeride E is powered by a 5.5 kWh MX50 lithium-ion battery pack, which offers 2-3 hours of off-road riding time, which is more than enough for a bike of this capability. The battery offers over 1000 charging cycles before dropping to 80% efficiency (battery health), as per the brand.

If you run out of juice, the battery takes 8 hours for a full charge with a 660 W standard charger. But KTM also offers a 3.3 kW fast charger as an optional accessory that can charge the bike in just 1.5 hours. While the battery is not traditionally swappable, it can be removed from the bike in under 10 minutes, which makes the maintenance and replacement process a lot easier.

      Premium Underpinnings For Utmost Capability

The 2027 KTM Freeride E is built on a chrome-molybdenum steel frame that is connected to an aluminium and glass-fibre-reinforced nylon subframe. With this new composite chassis, the bike’s kerb weight is reduced to just 112 kg, which means a lot more agility, control and confidence for a much better riding experience. The bike is equipped with a 43mm WP XACT inverted fork and a WP XPLOR monoshock with PDS (Progressive Damping System). With the PDS, the bike feels plush in its initial stroke, but as the suspension is loaded to its limits, it offers much better control. The bike has 250 mm front and 240 mm rear wheel travel, which adds to its off-road capability.

It rolls on a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear wheel, wrapped in 90-section and 120-section Michelin Enduro Medium tyres. The bike has a 260 mm front and a 220 mm rear disc brake setup, with both the levers mounted on handlebars for better control, allowing riders to focus on their stance and body positioning. With all of this hardware, the bike gets a seat height of 910 mm, and a massive 360 mm ground clearance, which is more than enough to tackle even the most difficult trails.

      Features And Safety

The 2027 KTM Freeride E gets the same LCD console, borrowed from the brand’s EXC dirt bike range. The small display shows a single reading at any given instance, with the options being selected riding mode, state of charge, run time, odometer, clock, trip time, and even the regen level. For a safer riding experience off the road, the bike is also equipped with a roll-over sensor that cuts off the power if you crash, preventing further accidents.

      Deliveries And Availability

The brand has confirmed that the 2027 Freeride E will be available through authorised dealerships internationally later this month. But it is very unlikely that the bike will be available in India anytime soon.
