MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Launched In India

JSW MG Motor India launched the Hector Tomahawk, its new three-row SUV with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Tomahawk PHEV is built on MG’s new ADAPT platform, which was unveiled earlier this year. The Tomahawk PHEV was launched in India alongside the MG Hector Tomahawk EV and gets a powertrain combination that remains relatively uncommon in India’s mainstream SUV segment. It is priced at Rs 25.69 lakh outright and around Rs 21.79 lakh under the BaaS scheme, where you will be charged Rs 3.20 per km driven.

Unlike a conventional hybrid, the Tomahawk’s plug-in hybrid system allows the battery to be charged externally as well, which means it can use electric power for shorter trips while retaining its petrol engine for longer journeys.

      MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Powertrain

The Tomahawk PHEV combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The combined system produces 145 kW (194 bhp) and 230 Nm.

      MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Specifications

      Specification Hector Tomahawk PHEV
      Engine 1.5-litre NA petrol
      Battery 20.5 kWh
      Power 145 kW
      Torque 230 Nm
      Powertrain Plug-in hybrid

The 20.5 kWh battery is the key difference between the Tomahawk and a conventional petrol-hybrid SUV. It gives the SUV the ability to operate as an EV for a considerable distance before the petrol engine takes over.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Electric-Only Driving Mode

The biggest USP of the Hector Tomahawk PHEV is its ability to combine electric driving for everyday use with petrol-powered long-distance ability. For owners who can regularly charge the battery at home, a large proportion of daily commuting could potentially be completed just using electric power, which means extremely low running costs. For longer journeys, the petrol engine provides the flexibility that a pure EV cannot. MG has therefore positioned the Tomahawk as an alternative to both conventional petrol SUVs and fully electric SUVs, which makes it quite an interesting proposition.

      Three-Row SUV With Family-Friendly Layout

The Hector Tomahawk is a three-row SUV, making it one of the more interesting plug-in hybrid offerings for buyers looking for a family vehicle. The global Starlight 560, on which the Tomahawk is said to be based, measures around 4.74 metres in length, giving it decent road presence and enough space for a three-row cabin.

      Features

The Tomahawk gets a technology-heavy cabin, with features including a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument display, wireless connectivity and a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Feature Highlights

      MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Feature
      Large touchscreen infotainment system
      Digital instrument cluster
      Wireless connectivity
      Two-spoke multifunction steering wheel
      ADAS
      TPMS
      Wireless charger
      LED lighting
      Dual-tone alloy wheels
      Leatherette upholstery

The SUV also gets a comprehensive connected-tech package, which makes it quite modern.

MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV Exterior Design

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV carries a distinct, modern design with its dual ‘U’-shaped LED DRLs, LED headlamps and a blacked-out grille with chrome accents.

Other highlights include contrasting skid plates, blacked-out pillars and roof, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and LED tail lamps. All of these make it quite gorgeous and elegant.

Who Should Buy The New 2026 MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV?

The Tomahawk makes the most sense for buyers who have access to easy charging but still frequently undertake longer trips. For daily commutes, the ability to plug in at home and use electric power can reduce petrol consumption significantly. And, at the same time, the petrol engine eliminates the need to plan longer journeys, which, in a typical EV, would have revolved around the availability of charging infrastructure.

      SearchEV Says

The MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV is arguably more interesting than other conventional petrol SUVs. Its 20.5 kWh battery is substantial for a plug-in hybrid, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine means owners don’t have to compromise on its long-distance usability.

The bigger question, in our opinion, will be the actual real-world electric range. If MG can price the Tomahawk competitively and deliver a useful EV-only range, it could occupy a sweet spot between petrol SUVs and expensive three-row EVs.

For now, the Tomahawk gives Indian buyers something they don’t have enough of: a proper family SUV that can genuinely operate as an EV for daily driving without giving up the convenience of petrol for long trips.
