      Expert Verdict

Built from the ground up, featuring massive BYD-sourced battery packs, the BE 6 offers blistering performance, immense range, and a level of equipment unlike anything else. Yes, its outlandishness makes it more of an illogical indulgence, and as a complex flagship, it does miss a bit of final polish.

      Mahindra BE 6 Design

      ★ 8/10

      Exterior

The Mahindra BE 6’s design is about as unconventional as it gets. Honestly, you won’t find anything under the Rs 30 lakh mark that looks quite like this; it feels almost like a concept car.

      Polarising? Definitely. Cool? Absolutely.

The aggressive posture starts right at the front with a forward-tilted hood featuring a massive air scoop. This is flanked by in-your-face, C-shaped LED DRLs that give it a UFO-like light signature at night. Move to the side, and you’ll notice the distinctive trapezoidal window line and a sharp, coupe-like roof and 19-inch wheels.

      Interior

The interior of the Mahindra BE 6 carries the radical and very concept car-like design theme. The driver gets a cockpit-like feel, which is further complemented by various airplane-inspired design elements.  Mahindra has also utilised some recycled materials, including the seat which combines leatherette with recycled fabric.

The twin 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment give the dash a premium, tech-first vibe. However, crucial physical buttons are missing; vital controls are buried inside the screen menus, which is frustrating for quick, on-the-fly adjustments while driving. Furthermore, thanks to that swooping roofline and thick pillars, rearward visibility is practically non-existent, making the 360-degree camera an absolute necessity.

      Build quality

From a distance, the heavy use of dark cladding might make the BE 6 look a bit plasticky, but the SUV utilises a strong monocoque frame constructed from a mix of high-strength steel and aluminum. The exterior plastics, like the bumpers and flared arches, are made from high-grade automotive ABS and polypropylene for flexibility and impact resistance. However, there is a heavy dose of gloss-black cladding all around, but be warned, it is highly prone to swirl marks and minor scratches.

      Mahindra BE 6 Features

      ★ 8.5/10

As far as features go, Mahindra has left absolutely nothing off the table with the BE 6.

The digital real estate is anchored by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that works fluidly and offers seamless wireless smartphone integration. It comes heavily packed with built-in apps and OTT platforms, but realistically, a lot of this feels like overkill. The UI is undeniably complicated and cluttered, meaning you will face a steep learning curve trying to dig through menus just to find basic functions while on the move.

However, where the BE 6 truly shines is in its unique, segment-first tech. A major highlight is the augmented reality (AR) Heads-Up Display, which projects a dynamic AR version of the vehicle and real-time navigation data directly onto the windshield.

There is also the clever Driver and Occupant Monitoring System, where the cabin camera actively tracks driver alertness. It also syncs with the 360 degree camera system to double as an in-cabin dashcam. On the quirkier side, it even lets you snap fun selfies with AI filters or take video calls directly from the driver’s seat.

The cabin aesthetics get a major boost from a highly customisable ambient lighting setup. Mahindra has taken this a step further with the fixed panoramic glass roof, which features its own patterned, customisable LED lighting elements integrated right into the glass.

The BE 6 also packs a mind-blowing 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system equipped with Dolby Atmos. . Furthermore, the SUV gets a comprehensive Level 2+ ADAS suite, including a fully autonomous self-parking function.

Mahindra BE 6 Performance & Range

      ★ 8.5/10

The Mahindra BE 6 is built on Mahindra’s much-talked-about, born-electric INGLO skateboard architecture. Supplying the juice to this platform are LFP Blade battery cells sourced from BYD, which have built a solid industry reputation for both thermal safety and high-density, compact packaging.

Mahindra is offering the SUV with two battery options, both utilising a single, rear-axle-mounted motor to drive the rear wheels with a healthy 380 Nm of torque. The base 59 kWh version produces 228 bhp with an MIDC-claimed range of 557 km, while the larger 79 kWh pack bumps the output to an impressive 282 bhp and boasts an MIDC claim of 683 km.

In real-world Indian driving conditions, if driven sensibly with the AC on, the 79 kWh version will comfortably deliver around 460 to 470 km. Even under high summer temperatures, or spirited driving, it will easily manage a solid 400 km, provided you aren’t pinning the throttle to the floor at every green light.

But the fact is, you will absolutely want to gun that throttle. The BE 6 accelerates ferociously. thanks to the seamless electric power delivery and quiet cabin, you will often find yourself hitting illegal triple-digit speeds before you even notice.

There are driving modes on offer though. But even in the economy-focused ‘Range’ mode, power delivery remains impressively strong and linear, though it electronically caps your top speed. Unlocking the full 282 bhp hp in Race mode (or tapping into ‘Boost’ mode for peak power in the tamer settings) delivers a 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 6.7 seconds.

Mahindra BE 6 Ride & Handling

      ★ 8/10

The Mahindra BE 6’s ride and handling setup leans heavily towards the enthusiastic driver. While it inevitably carries the weight penalty of a large battery pack, that mass is positioned low within the INGLO skateboard chassis. This lowered center of gravity gives the SUV exceptional, planted stability at triple-digit speeds. The steering is light but delightfully direct, and the sharp front-end response gives the BE 6 much agility.

When it comes to ride comfort, the BE 6 shares its core suspension architecture with the XUV 9e, but the tuning here is noticeably stiffer and sportier. It features semi-adaptive dampers that cleverly adjust their stiffness based on your selected drive mode. Slot it into ‘Range’ mode, and the setup becomes noticeably softer and more compliant for city cruising. However, the firm baseline suspension, the heavy battery pack, and those massive 19-inch wheels mean that sharp, large potholes will send a noticeable thud into the cabin.

Despite that stiffness, it retains that quintessential Mahindra DNA, which is an undeniable feeling of underlying robustness. You can barrel over broken patches and rough rural roads without that wincing feeling that you’re going to break something. The generous 207 mm of unladen ground clearance and chunky 245-section tires inspire confidence.

When it’s time to shed that speed, the BE 6 utilises a highly sophisticated brake-by-wire system, that seamlessly transitions between regenerative braking and the conventional all-wheel disc brakes. Speaking of regen, you get four selectable levels of intensity via the steering paddles, alongside a dedicated one-pedal driving mode.

      Mahindra BE 6 Safety

      ★ 10/10

The Mahindra BE 6 recently aced the Bharat NCAP crash tests with a flawless 5-star rating. The standard safety net is comprehensive right from the base variant. You get six airbags across the board (with a seventh knee airbag added on higher trims), all-wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), hill hold control, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an integrated tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Stepping up to the higher variants unlocks a highly sophisticated Level 2+ ADAS suite powered by a network of five radars and a camera. Another standout feature working in the background is the Driver and Occupant Monitoring System (DOMS), that actively tracks your alertness.

Mahindra BE 6 Space & Comfort

      ★ 6/10

Frunk Space, Boot Space, Cabin Space

The combination of a high floor and the aggressively low, coupe-like roofline means you have to slouch or duck slightly to enter the cabin every single time. At the back, while the kneeroom is genuinely ample, headroom is strictly limited for taller passengers. Furthermore, the thick, heavily sculpted door pads intrude into the cabin, reducing the overall seat width and making it uncomfortably snug if you try to fit three adults side-by-side.

The main boot faces a similar problem with the high loading lip, which complicates the loading of heavy items. Boot space is rated at 455 litres, but the vertical height is restricted by the sloping roof, making stacking large suitcases difficult. You do however, get a practical 45-litre frunk (front trunk).

      Headroom, Sitting Posture, Under-thigh support

Up front, the seats are a bit on the narrow side but offer excellent side bolstering that holds you well in corners. However, the under-thigh support could definitely have been better, especially for taller drivers.

In the rear, the high floor pushes your knees up, resulting in lack of sufficient under-thigh support. Finally, the quirky rear air vents can’t be directionally adjusted for the airflow. Mahindra has included an adjustable backrest recline to add a degree of customisation for rear-seat comfort.

Mahindra BE 6 Charging & Warranty

      ★ 10/10

The BE 6 can support ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 175 kW. At a compatible fast charger, you can juice the battery from 20% to 80% in a brisk 20 minutes. For your everyday overnight charging, Mahindra offers 7.2 kW and 11.2 kW AC options. However, it is important to note that the wall-box charger and its installation are not offered as standard, and requires an additional investment..

Where Mahindra has truly played a masterstroke is with its battery coverage. The brand is offering an unprecedented Lifetime Battery Warranty for the first private owner, valid for up to 15 years with unlimited kilometers. Beyond the battery, the standard vehicle warranty covers you for 3 years or 1.25 lakh km.

Mahindra BE 6 Service & Network

      ★ 6.5/10

While Mahindra boasts a massive, deeply established service footprint across India, transitioning an entire workforce to handle complex, born-electric vehicles like the BE 6 has naturally exposed some growing pains. A notable concern right now is the consistency of EV-specific diagnostic expertise across their various local workshops.

Because this INGLO architecture tech is still so fresh to the ground staff, complex issues frequently result in the car sitting at the workshop for days. Local mechanics often have to stall and await remote diagnosis, software patches, or direct intervention from Mahindra’s central engineering team.
