      • The programme is designed to address concerns around EV resale values
      • It comes alongside Hyundai’s recently introduced Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership option
      • Creta EV BaaS price starts at Rs 10.99 lakh, with battery usage charges starting at Rs 3.90 per km

Hyundai India has introduced an Assured Buyback Programme for the Creta Electric, giving buyers a more predictable exit option if they decide to sell the SUV in the future. Resale value remains one of the biggest points of scepticism with electric vehicles.

Rapid improvements in battery technology, changing EV prices and concerns about long-term battery health can make it difficult for buyers to estimate what their car will be worth after a few years. Hyundai’s new programme attempts to address that uncertainty by providing customers with a predetermined buyback structure.

Why Is An Assured Buyback Important For EV Buyers?

Unlike conventional ICE cars, EVs are still relatively new in India’s used-car market. This makes their long-term residual values harder to predict. Battery technology is also evolving quickly, while manufacturers are introducing newer EVs with larger batteries, longer ranges and more features. This puts pressure on the resale value of older electric cars.

An assured buyback programme gives buyers greater control and trust over the car’s future value instead of leaving them entirely dependent on the used-car market. Here’s an overview of the same in brief:

Without Assured Buyback With Assured Buyback
Future resale value depends on the used-car market Predetermined buyback structure
Resale value can be uncertain Greater visibility over future value
The buyer takes the resale-value risk Manufacturer-backed programme reduces uncertainty
Selling price depends on market conditions Exit value is defined by programme terms

Creta Electric Gets BaaS As Well

The assured buyback programme comes at a time when Hyundai is also expanding its EV ownership proposition through Battery-as-a-Service.

Under Hyundai’s BaaS programme, the Creta Electric can be purchased at a much lower upfront cost, where the battery is paid for separately based on monthly usage. Hyundai says the BaaS version starts at Rs 10.99 lakh, where the battery EMI starts at Rs 3.90 per km.

      Hyundai Creta EV BaaS Explained

      Parameter Details
Starting BaaS Price Rs 10.99 lakh
Battery Usage Charge From Rs 3.90 per km
Battery Excluded from upfront vehicle price
Home Charger 7.4 kW wallbox on HC variants

      *all prices are ex-showroom.

Hyundai Creta Electric Battery And Range

The Creta Electric is available with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery packs. The smaller battery has a claimed range of 390 km, while the larger battery pack has 473 km. It also supports DC fast charging, with a claimed 10-80 % charging time of 58 minutes.

      Specification Creta Electric
      Battery Options 42 kWh / 51.4 kWh
      Claimed Range 390 km / 473 km
      DC Charging 10-80 % in 58 minutes
Drive Modes Eco, Normal, and Sport
      Single-Pedal Driving Yes

The combination of BaaS and assured buyback gives Creta Electric a different ownership proposition. The BaaS scheme addresses the initial purchase cost hurdle, allowing customers to pay for the battery separately. And, the assured buyback programme, addresses concerns about the vehicle’s resale value, which makes it a double-proof purchase that tackles the two biggest financial concerns regarding an EV purchase.

Also, Hyundai’s latest BaaS announcement also included an integrated side-footstep for the Creta Electric, while the HC variants now receive a 7.4 kW wallbox charger based on customer demand. But, in our opinion, the exact buyback percentage, tenure, kilometre limit and eligibility conditions are crucial in judging how attractive the programme really is. Those terms should be checked carefully before signing up, as the headline buyback value alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Stay tuned for more details, as we will update this article as soon as we receive more info.
