BMW has unveiled a new iteration of the BMW iX5, the fifth-generation model, providing an all-new cabin layout and different powertrain configurations, offering varied dynamics customers adore. While petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrids are commonly considered amongst customers, finding demand, the company will introduce an electric version that is poised to take the market by storm. 

The BMW iX5 | The Exterior Design Elements

The latest BMW iX5 comes with contemporary styling elements that resonate with a new-age but subtle design architecture, complemented by an upright silhouette providing a muscular stance. The fascia of the iX5 is butch-looking, featuring a dual X-shaped headlight design, a signature announcing that the vehicle is one of BMW’s most appealing cars in the SUV segment.

The signature headlights also integrate DRLs into a single unit with an adaptive LED lighting function, also incorporating cornering lights and unique matrix high-beam functionality. Towards the sides, things become even more futuristic, featuring a winglet door handle design unique to BMW. These are integrated into the B and C-pillars, also lending the vehicle a premium but sporty appeal. The fine contoured wheel arches and sculpted lines on the side design give a bulky appearance. 

On the rear end, things are much busier, but in an appealing way, featuring a signature taillight lighting design; its sharp and angled design provides an upmarket appeal. The aggressive usage of glossy black elements with the showcased colour scheme also means the vehicle looks rugged. The wing (spoiler-like) on the boot also gives the iX5 a sporty stance that is liked by many.

The iX5 comes with a fresh new cabin layout featuring new trims and technology, making it by far the most advanced in its segment. The cabin features a futuristic angled panoramic i-Drive display unit and a massive 17.9-inch centrally mounted touchscreen on the dash. A 3-dimensional heads-up display adds to modern integrations. An optional passenger screen is also a neat addition to the overall dashboard layout. Furthermore, the steering wheel design is fresh to the iX5’s design. 

Apart from the above additions, the new BMW iX5 comes with optional glass accents or slate accents to complement the overall interior trim design. Another important highlight is the fitment of sporty seats, with functional seat ventilation and a massage feature (both optional). To add to the vehicle’s luxury appeal, soft-closing doors are provided, an element of elegance in every sense.  

The Bowers and Wilkins sound system, ensuring an immersive experience supported by Dolby Atmos, is another neat solution, making the cabin truly a space for a theatre-like experience. To add to the luxury integrations, customers can opt for a 4-zone climate control system with a dedicated touchscreen unit for the rear-row passenger to adjust the system.

BMW iX5 60 xDrive (Electric):

The BMW iiX5 utilises a 141 kWh capacity battery pack featuring an 800 V high-voltage electric architecture supported by a dual-motor powertrain. These combined enable the vehicle to generate 578 hp of power and a staggering 805 Nm of peak torque. Thanks to the powertrain, BMW claims that the vehicle can reach a top speed of 210 kmph. This also means 0-100 kmph is achieved in 4.6 seconds. The WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) range is stated to be a maximum of 845 km / full charge. 

• DC Fast Charging Capacity: Can handle 460 kW DC fast charging. 
• Battery Charging Time: Takes 23 minutes to recharge from a 10-80 % state of charge.
• AC Fast Charging Capacity: Supports up to 22 kW AC charging. 

BMW X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid: 

Will feature a 3.0-litre petrol engine supported by an electric motor to churn out 489 Hp of power and 700 Nm of maximum torque output. 

Suspension System: 

The vehicle will feature a standard adaptive suspension system to elevate the ride and stability performance to new heights.

The BMW iiX5 and Plug-in hybrid variants are expected to hit the market by early 2027, with petrol and diesel variants launching globally as soon as November 2026.
