Audi just dropped a bomb, and it blew all of the automotive industry. The German manufacturer just unwrapped its most powerful hybrid supercar ever made – the Audi Nuvolari. It is also the fastest machine built by the brand to date and can reach speeds upwards of 350 kmph.
Named after legendary Italian racing driver – Tazio Nuvolari, this new radical machine is not a direct successor to the R8, but a flagship, halo product meant to showcase the brand’s engineering capabilities. Production of this extreme hybrid supercar will be capped at just 499 units internationally, with each unit priced at around €600,000 (approximately Rs 6.6 crore).
More Powerful Than A Lamborghini Temerario
The Audi Nuvolari PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is built on the same architecture as the Lamborghini Temerario, powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out close to 588 kW (800 hp) of peak power. It is paired to three electric motors (two on the front axle and one in the gearbox) and a 7.3 kWh battery pack. However, Audi has managed to extract even more performance from the setup, and the combined power output is rated at a whopping 746 kW (1,001 hp).
This massive amount of power is sent to all four wheels through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Nuvolari’s claimed 0 to 100 kmph sprint time is just 2.6 seconds, reaching 200 kmph in just 6.8 seconds and exceeding 350 kmph flat out.
Formula 1 Technology Finds Its Way To The Road
A lightweight carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer body has helped reduce weight while giving it excellent structural rigidity, which is quite important for a car capable of putting out such extreme performance.
The new Audi supercar also features active aero, which includes adjustable front air intakes and an adaptive rear wing for better braking. It also gets F1-inspired brake-by-wire technology and advanced energy management systems which are designed to maximise both performance and efficiency.
Audi Design Meets R8 Influences
The Nuvolari gets styling cues inspired by Audi’s 2025 Concept C. It gets similar sleek lighting elements, sculpted panels, and a distinctive rectangular grille which looks quite sporty. However, there are several nods to the R8, which include the large side intakes, muscular rear haunches and mid-engine proportions. Other highlights include forged centre-lock wheels, a dramatic rear diffuser, an exposed engine cover and a titanium-inspired exterior finish shared with Audi’s Formula 1 programme.
In the Cabin
The cockpit features Alcantara and leather upholstery, lightweight sports seats, anodised aluminium trim and a digital instrument display. A raised transmission tunnel divides the cabin into two distinct zones, while the centre console houses the infotainment system and key vehicle controls. All of these elements come together to give the driver a luxurious yet minimalist experience.
