Intro
The lifestyle pickup segment is preparing for a green revolution, and Toyota is stepping directly into the spotlight. Hot on the heels of launching the new-generation internal combustion engine (ICE) Hilux in India, the Japanese automaker has used the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show to unveil its electric counterpart: the Toyota Hilux EV.
Indian car owners who have slowly but surely warmed up to lifestyle or adventure utility vehicles like the standard diesel Hilux, this electric derivative offers an interesting glimpse into the future of off-roading with zero tailpipe emissions.
Toyota Hilux EV Design and Dimensions

Visually, the Hilux EV does not stray far from the proven formula, carrying over the muscular, imposing silhouette of the ICE-powered model, though it does introduce a few specific electric touches. The front fascia replaces the traditional open grille with a closed-off, body-coloured panel, a common trait among modern EVs designed to improve aerodynamics. While the main LED headlamp clusters carry over, they now feature unique daytime running light (DRL) elements. The truck rides on EV-specific 17-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of footprint, the electric Hilux is identical to its ICE sibling. It measures 5.3 metres in length and sits on a 3,085 mm wheelbase. A healthy ground clearance of 210 mm ensures that the vehicle remains ready for rough terrain. To protect vital electrical components during off-road excursions, Toyota has fitted the Hilux EV with a protective e-axle under cover.
Toyota Hilux EV Battery, Range, and Performance

Under the floorboards, the Hilux EV houses a 59.2 kWh battery pack. This battery feeds a dual-motor setup, with e-Axles positioned at both the front and the rear, to provide full-time all-wheel drive. Together, the motors generate a combined output of 190 kW. The front axle delivers 205 Nm of torque, while the rear pushes out 268.6 Nm.
Toyota claims the electric pickup can achieve a driving range of 315 km on a full charge. When it is time to plug in, the Hilux EV supports 150 kW DC fast charging via a CCS2 port, allowing the battery to go from 10 to 80 per cent in roughly 30 minutes. For home or overnight charging, a 10 kW AC Type 2 charger will replenish the battery from 10 per cent to full in approximately 6.5 hours.
Toyota Hilux EV Utility and Cabin Tech
A pickup truck must still work for a living, and Toyota has retained a payload capacity of 750 kg for the EV. It also boasts a towing capacity of 1,600 kg. The inclusion of a Multi-Terrain Select system means the electronics can intelligently manage brake and torque distribution to mimic the low-range crawl of a traditional 4×4 setup.
Inside, the cabin takes a massive leap forward in technology. The dashboard is dominated by a dual 12.3-inch display configuration. Drivers also benefit from modern conveniences such as wireless smartphone charging, an electronic parking brake, and multiple USB Type-C ports.
