VinFast, the Vietnamese EV manufacturer, has filed two new patent applications in India. These consist of the VinFast Viper and a new electric motorcycle based on the ‘Sulad’ concept, which was unveiled earlier this year. As it was patented in India, we think that these will be launched in India in the near future.
What We Know About the VinFast Viper
The design of the electric scooter patented in India resembles the VinFast Viper, which is sold overseas. It gets a sharp, aggressive styling with a sleek headlamp mounted on the sporty apron. It also gets a step-through floorboard, split grabrails, modern bodywork, and large alloy wheels, which seem to be 14-inch units.
Compared to the international model, the India-patented version appears to receive revised body panels and updated LED lighting, which suggest it could be a refreshed or next-generation Viper that is coming to our shores.
Electric Motorcycle Based On Sulad Concept
The second patent is arguably the more interesting one among these. It is an electric cafe-racer-styled motorcycle, which is most likely based on the Sulad Concept, which was revealed earlier.
From the patent design, we can see it gets a neo-retro styling blended with naked-streetfight aesthetics, which gives it a cafe-racer look. It has muscular tank shrouds (tank extensions), a single-piece seat, and beautiful alloy wheels. The main highlight is the circular LED headlight, which looks extremely cool.
As far as ergonomics are concerned, this bike will have a committed riding position with low-slung clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs. A mid-mounted electric motor is expected to drive this motorcycle, and it could have performance comparable to a 400cc petrol motorcycle. If launched, it would become VinFast’s first electric motorcycle for the Indian market.
VinFast India Plans
VinFast has already confirmed that it intends to enter India’s electric two-wheeler market during the second half of 2026, initially with three electric scooters, one of which could be the VinFast Viper alongside the VinFast Vento S. The company is also setting up local manufacturing in Tamil Nadu as part of its broader India expansion strategy, which could help bring manufacturing costs in India significantly down. We think with this move, the brand could be laying foundation for a broader product lineup, which could help it take the mainstream brands head-on quite effortlessly.
