      Expert Verdict

Oben Rorr EZ nails retro style without sacrificing commuter sense. Punchy, efficient, and low-maintenance — it’s for riders who want personality in their daily ride. Bonus points if you’ve got charging sorted.

      Oben Rorr EZ Design

      ★ 8/10
      Design and Colour Schemes

The Oben Rorr EZ has a neo-retro design with its circular LED headlamp, the sporty sculpted tank with aggressive shrouds (extensions), and the single-piece seat, which looks quite nice. The bike is available in four paint schemes: Electro Amber, Surge Cyan, Lumina Green, and Photon White, all of which come with sporty graphics. These graphics have bodylines that run along the length of the bike, naturally merging in its tail section, giving it a sleek look.

The bike’s headlamp also gets a small cover-like bezel which looks a lot cleaner and premium. Additionally, the bike gets a coloured underbelly panel with similar graphics, just like the colour schemes. It also gets subtle branding elements on its body panels, which look quite elegant.

The Rorr EZ’s blacked-out alloys contrast the paint schemes nicely, making them stand out. Despite all of this, we think a rim sticker would have been a nice addition to its design. While all of the design elements come together nicely, the tyre hugger looks a bit out of place if you just focus on how it looks.

      Build Quality

The overall build quality of the Oben Rorr EZ is decent. Its panels are well-fitted and look clean with all the wiring work tucked inside. Overall, the electric bike looks well put together, and the build quality is on par with what’s expected from its price point and competitors.

      Oben Rorr EZ Features

      ★ 6/10

The Oben Rorr EZ gets an all-LED lighting setup which includes a circular headlamp, sleek indicators and a tail lamp that looks really nice when illuminated. The lighting setup is decent and provides good visibility during low-light conditions. The bike also gets two USB type-A charging ports in the front lockable storage compartment, located on the tank.

It comes with a coloured LCD display, which only shows the essential information. The readouts include readings of the speedometer, odometer, charge, remaining range, riding mode, and even a clock. The DAS light is just positioned above the screen. The screen is quite well-lit and easy to read while riding. All in all, it has a decent feature list, but since it’s designed for city commuting, navigation could be a useful feature to have, which the Rorr EZ misses out on.

Oben Rorr EZ Performance & Range

      ★ 8/10
      Motor And Performance

The Oben Rorr EZ is driven by a mid-mounted electric motor that puts out 7.5kW of peak power and 277Nm of torque at the rear wheel. Do note that torque in electric vehicles is calculated with a different method. With all of this torque surging through the rear wheel, the bike can accelerate from a standstill to 40kmph in just 3.3 seconds.

The Rorr EZ has three ride modes: Eco, City, and Havoc, which modulate the bike’s top speed. In Eco mode, the top speed is capped at 40kmph which is quite slow in our opinion. When testing the bike, we found the City mode the most useful, as it strikes a good balance between performance and range. The top speed is limited to 60kmph here, but when zipping through traffic, it feels adequate.

It’s the Havoc mode that works just as the name suggests. Here the bike can reach a top speed of 95kmph, which is more than enough for highway commutes as well as quick overtakes. Apart from the performance, the throttle response and calibration are quite good. This translates to a friendly riding experience, with which even newer riders won’t be intimidated. The only thing that can be improved here is switching between ride modes, which could have been a bit smoother.

      Battery Specifications

The Oben Rorr EZ is powered by an LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) battery, which comes with MHX (Maximum Heat Exchange) tech. This technology helps in dissipating heat better, especially during fast charging or longer commutes. The Oben Rorr EZ is available in three battery pack variants: 2.6kWh, 3.4kWh, and 4.4kWh. All of these battery packs are IP67 rated.

      Claimed Range vs Real-world Range

With these batteries, the bike gets a maximum claimed IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of 110km, 140km, and 175km.

Our test unit – the mid-spec variant with the 3.4kWh battery pack – has a claimed range of 140km in Eco mode. While testing, we got a real-world range of around 115km in Eco mode. In the normal mode, this comes down to 93km, and in Havoc, the range is just around 75km. Do note that these range figures might differ due to rider weight and road conditions. So, riders who are a bit lean might get slightly more range.

Oben Rorr EZ Ride & Handling

      ★ 6/10
      Underpinnings

The Oben Rorr EZ comes with a 37mm telescopic fork and a 7-step preload-adjustable monoshock absorber. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in a 110-section front and a 130-section rear tubeless tyres.

      Ride Quality

With this suspension setup, the bike absorbs all the minor undulations with ease. Even over broken patches, the ride quality is decent, at least for our test rider, who weighs 88kg. But, you will have to slow down for larger potholes and the steep speed bumps common on Indian roads. The rumble strips are a fun experience, though.

If you are on the lighter side of the scale, then you might feel the ride quality to be a little stiff. Apart from this, the 200mm ground clearance helps the bike cross even the tallest bumps without scraping anything, adding to its capability.

      Handling

With the 17-inch wheels, the bike handles like a breeze. Despite weighing 143kg, it feels light and manageable, even at low speeds. Here, the credit goes to the wide handlebar, which makes it very easy to manoeuvre the bike through tight spots and stop-go traffic. Also, the Ceat tyres offer more than enough grip for the amount of performance this bike has.

      Braking Performance

The bike has disc brakes at both ends with Bybre (By Brembo) callipers. It also gets Unified Braking Assist (UBA), which is essentially a combined braking system, that distributes the braking force evenly between the wheels.

The brakes have decent bite and work well, even in case of panic braking situations. Overall, the braking performance is adequate and gives the rider good confidence while riding the bike. But, we think the bike should at least be offered with single-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), making the riding experience even safer.

      Oben Rorr EZ Safety

      ★ 6/10

The Oben Rorr EZ gets a Driver Alert System (DAS) that gives the rider a clear indication of the bike’s ignition status via a notification light in the console. It also comes with Anti-theft function that keeps the rider aware of the bike’s current location through the Oben app.

Oben Rorr EZ Space & Comfort

      ★ 8/10
      Ergonomics

The bike’s riding position is a bit on the sportier side with slightly rear-set footpegs. The handlebar is nice and wide, making it very easy for riders of various heights to fit in comfortably. The seat height is 810mm, which is just accessible, but riders with a height less than 5’8” might find it difficult to flat-foot on the bike, as it is slightly broader.

      Rider And Pillion Comfort

The seat is a single-piece unit, rather than a split one, and has a decent amount of padding, perfect for daily commutes. Our test rider, who’s 6 ft tall, found the bike to be accommodating rather than cramped. With enough space to move around, it makes for a comfortable commuter.

The pillion sits slightly above the rider, and the seat is well shaped. Your pillion won’t have a problem while commuting in the city, but this could be an issue on rides longer than 50km.

      Storage And Utility

The bike has two storage spaces: one on the tank and the other below the seat where the charger is stored. The front one is adequate to store daily essentials and also comes with two ports to charge your devices. And, if your commutes are short and you don’t carry your charger everywhere, the underseat one will come in handy and can fit a small bag easily.

Oben Rorr EZ Charging & Warranty

      ★ 6/10
      Charging Options And Time

You can charge the Oben Rorr EZ with three options: Oben Port, Oben Plug, and Oben Net. The Oben Port is the home charger that can be plugged into any 3-pin socket, and is quite handy for people who have limited parking space. With this option, you’ll need to wait for around 5 hours for a full charge for the mid-spec variant that we tested.

If you have ample parking space, you can get the Oben Plug, which is a wall-mounted fast charger. It can charge the Oben Rorr EZ 3.4kWh from 0 to 80% in less than 2 hours. You can also charge the bike at Oben Net, which is the brand’s charging station network.

      Warranty

You get 3 years, or 40,000km of warranty on the battery and motor.

Oben Rorr EZ Service & Network

      ★ 8/10

Oben Electric is currently present in more than 40 cities in India. The brand is planning on expanding to 100 more in upcoming months.
