At the 2026 Indonesia Motor Show, Hyundai unveiled the Neira concept, a near-production prototype of its upcoming 7-seater electric MPV. Built on the bones of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the Hyundai family EV shares much of its design, equipment, and EV hardware, with slight tweaks for differentiation.
The South Korean carmaker has seen a declining trend in the June 2026 EV sales in India, with only the Hyundai Creta EV carrying the green intentions in its mass-market portfolio. Hence, a 7-seater electric MPV based on the Clavis EV surely becomes a welcome addition to expand Hyundai’s domestic EV portfolio.
An SUV-Inspired MPV Design
Although the new Hyundai Neira concept shares its DNA with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the brand has given it some of its own visual identity. The front fascia is dominated by a seamless, full-width LED light bar that connects sleek daytime running lights. Below this sits a closed-off upper grille, vertically stacked headlight units, and a silver-finished bumper insert (skid plate) to emphasise its SUV aspirations.
The side profile reveals a long roofline and a large glasshouse designed to maximise passenger headroom and visibility. Silver roof rails and aerodynamic five-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels further work in enhancing the appeal. At the rear, the Neira features vertical LED taillights connected by a slim light strip across the tailgate, topped with an integrated roof spoiler.
The vehicle is expected to measure roughly 4,550 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and will sit on a 2,780 mm wheelbase, dimensions that closely mirror its Kia sibling.
Cabin and Tech Features
The interior design of the Neira largely mirrors what has become typical in modern Hyundai vehicles. At the front lies a floating centre console flanked by a dual 12.3-inch display which combines the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.
Helping the premium ambiance of the cabin are features like leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and customisable ambient lighting. The steering wheel sports Hyundai’s modern morse code ‘H’ logo. Practically, the Neira will feature a flexible 7-seat layout designed to comfortably accommodate large families. Furthermore, a switchable touch panel manages both the infotainment and climate controls, keeping the dashboard clean and uncluttered.
Battery, Range, and Charging Expectations
Although there are no technical specifications available from Hyundai regarding the Neira, it shares its platform with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, thus giving us a clear idea of what we are to expect.
Two options of the battery packs will be available in the electric MPV, a 42 kWh battery and the larger 51.4 kWh battery. It will deliver a driving range of 404 km to 490 km per charge. The electric motor is expected to produce power ranging from 135 hp to 171 hp, accompanied by 255 Nm of peak torque.
As far as charging the vehicle is concerned, Neira will be capable of accepting up to 100 kW DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 39 minutes.
Conclusion
The Hyundai Neira concept provides a compelling look at the brand’s first dedicated 7-seater electric MPV. The production model is slated to arrive in Indonesia before the end of 2026. Given the growing demand for electric vehicles and MPVs in India, bringing the Neira to the domestic market could give Hyundai a powerful new contender to sit alongside the Creta EV and Ioniq 5. Hyundai’s stronger dealer network compared to Kia could help the Korean auto giant find a larger share of the market than what the Kia brand could do.
