MG ZS EV Expert Review

Exterior: 

The MG ZS EV features a sloping bonnet line, with visible contours that give it a muscular characterisation. The front section also gets body-coloured elements, which help with its muscular appeal. The prominent display of the MG emblem on the fascia too provides it with a premium attribute, complemented by the closed body-coloured grille and sculpted bumper design.

The flanking hawkeye-like full LED lighting in the front, with proportionally integrated LED DRLs, duly provides a continuum to the premium design philosophy established by MG with the ZS EV. The unique placement of the charging port cover with a dotted texture, housed on the closed-off grille section, gives the MG ZS EV a premium touch. That said, the vehicle does not feel like a ground-up design, since it borrows elements from its ICE counterpart. We also feel the grille section to be an afterthought; the charging port feels a bit clunky, but it is still appealing. 

Nevertheless, the lower bumper section boasts a functional grille for aerodynamic efficiency and thermal cooling of the components underneath; this lower air intake and the silver skid plate, provided with the ZS EV from MG, also enhance the fascia, ensuring a strong, design. Towards the sides, things remain a bit more subtle in character but premium in appearance:

The side section of the MG ZS EV features fine contours and sharp-edged body lines, which are enhanced by the adequate use of black body cladding. In fact, MG has used black cladding optimally on the wheel arches to provide it with a rugged SUV-like appeal, without overdoing it. The aerodynamically designed alloy wheels are also a neat touch to enhance the premium appeal.

Coming to the rear section, the MG ZS EV uses full LED tail lights with spine-like lighting elements, which accentuate its road presence. The roof-mounted spoiler, with an integrated stoplamp and black-coloured elements, ties up the rear end well in terms of design flow. With multiple colour schemes like Glaze Red, Aurora Silver, Starry Black, and Candy White, the MG ZS EV is meant to suit diverse customers, including those seeking to stand out uniquely, with the MG ZS EV’s representation. 

Interior:

The in-cabin experience of the MG ZS EV is top-class, featuring the use of premium textured elements and trims. The leather cabin theme is also top-notch; it comes in dual-tone Iconic Ivory White or Dark Grey themes based on the variants chosen; the Dark Grey-themed interior layout is available across all 4 variants: Executive, Excite Pro, Exclusive Plus, and Essence. Meanwhile, the dual-tone Ivory theme is available only in Exclusive Plus and Essence variants. 

To further elevate the user experience, the cabin’s dashboard layout features leather soft-touch materials, and adequate use of switches. The front seating arrangement is also ideal, with adequate bolstering for enhanced comfort, especially on longer journeys. However, the rear seats have minimal under-thigh support and a raised floorboard.  The use of a dual-pane panoramic glass roof provides a roomy feel too; the sky roof spans the entire length of the vehicle. But due to the complex mechanism, the roof space is cut down, meaning taller rear-row occupants will be troubled. 

Nevertheless, there are also utility spaces to store things; MG provides a centrally mounted driver armrest with a storage function and a large glove box on the dashboard. There are also deeper door pockets. In terms of comfort and convenience, the MG ZS EV is ahead in its appeal in the mid-sized SUV segment. The build quality and fit and finish of these elements are also better than those of most vehicles: 

Build Quality: 

By the standards of a mid-sized all-electric SUV, the fit and finish of panels are top-notch; the dashboard features the use of premium materials, with texturing and silver accents for luxury. The design of the dashboard and seating arrangements is ergonomically sound. Speaking of, the switch gears are positioned ergonomically, within the reach of the driver, without causing major distractions. In the department of build quality, the MG ZS EV aces well, ensuring a premium feel.
