Expert Verdict
The TVS iQube electric scooter has firmly established itself as one of the most reliable family-oriented electric vehicles in India. The iQube prioritises tech-advanced feature integrations and a powerful electric powertrain, and is designed to suit India’s city operating environments. Emphasising practical utility and build quality, the TVS iQube is the commuter vehicle India needs.
TVS iQube Design
Exterior:
The TVS iQube features a much more practical and simple design language rather than opting for a polarising or futuristic design approach; hence, it suits a family-oriented appeal. The Apron resonates with this design approach, featuring a well-contoured and slanted architecture, boasting horizontal LED strip integration and a U-shaped LED DRL element on the handlebar cowl front.
Towards the sides, the TVS iQube features contoured creases, but not an overly crowded approach, to ensure they remain simple character lines to suit its practical design language. The character lines offer a neat design but give it a modern styling that resonates with family scooters. For premium appeal, the motor casing comes with unique illuminated TVS electric badging – a subtle but premium touch.
To carry the premium and modern appeal, the iQube from TVS comes with a long, bolstered seat with a pillion backrest too. Furthermore, to ensure the vehicle is rigid and high-strength for durability, it is based on a tubular chassis construction; this factor also provides significant floorboard space for foot placement.
Meanwhile, to elevate this modern, premium, and strong appeal, the iQube comes in distinctive colour schemes
Colours:
The TVS iQube is available in Pearl White, Titanium Grey, Walnut Brown, Starlight Blue Beige, and Copper Bronze Beige. These help elevate the vehicle’s design, offering premium appeal from all angles.
Build Quality:
The TVS iQube comes with a strong and reliable tubular chassis construction which can handle rough patches, speed breakers, and minor impacts without causing flexing or rattling of components. The suspension system (front telescopic and rear hydraulic shock absorbers) is designed to handle rough roads seamlessly with high durability. The use of plastic panelling seems decent, but it can get scratched, affecting the premium feel. But it keeps the weight in check for a seamless riding experience.
TVS iQube Features
TVS has made sure to integrate a feature-rich cockpit design supported by a telematics ecosystem to enhance operations and ownership experience. Also, the base 2.3 kWh and 3.1 kWh battery capacity variants feature a 12.7 cm LCD and TFT display cluster, respectively. Meanwhile, the 3.5 kWh battery capacity variant gets a slightly larger 12.77 cm TFT digital cluster. These can be controlled via physical switchgear. In addition to these, the e-scooter comes with geo-fencing and an anti-theft alert function to ensure the vehicle is a safe solution, especially in bad neighbourhoods.
Moreover, there are downsides to the cluster integrations on lower- and mid-tier variants of the TVS iQube in India; simple selection of navigation sub-menus and destination options requires clicking through with switchgear, which can be improved with touchscreen integration. The software is also sluggish to an extent, which can cause hindrance in premium user appeal. Booting up also has delays, which can affect the overall user experience of the cluster.
That being stated, the TVS iQube also comes with multiple practical feature integrations to enhance user appeal; it comes with a built-in USB mobile charging port – which comes in handy when riding across town and staying connected. The mid-tier trim, the 3.1 kWh variant, also gets hill hold assist that prevents roll back on inclines. Further, turn-by-turn navigation and Bluetooth-enabled connectivity are provided with the iQube.
While these features are useful, the clunky switchgear operation seems to be the another downside that can be eliminated with a touchscreen-enabled system. Nonetheless, the system comes with call and sms alerts too, which enhances safety with hands-free operations. For security reasons, the display unit only showcases a preview. Overall, the system is still by far better than most electric scooters with a system toggle switchgear fitment. Nevertheless, considering a sweet spot in terms of pricing, the TVS iQube is still a feature-rich scooter available in the e-scooter bracket.
TVS iQube Performance & Range
The TVS iQube series features battery capacities of 2.3 kWh, 3.1 kWh, and 3.5 kWh – are designed to suit diverse customer requirements. Utilising a quiet BLDC electric motor integration, the vehicle is designed to offer good power and torque for tackling city driving environments. In fact, the motor delivers 3.68 kW of power (with the base trim) and 4.4 kW of power (with the mid-spec and top-tier trims). That said, torque remains the same across all such variants: 33 Nm.
Accelerative performance is also top-notch featuring these three variants of the TVS iQube; it takes 4.7 seconds to clock 0-40 kmph with the 2.3 kWh trim, while the 3.1 kWh and 3.5 kWh trims take just 4.2 seconds to clock the same speed. Speaking of speeds, the 2.3 kWh trim can reach 68 kmph, while the other two trims can reach speeds of up to 82 kmph.
As for IDC range, these TVS iQube variants offer 114 km, 123 km, and 145 km range (with 2.3 kWh, 3.1 kWh, and 3.5 kWh, respectively). For better battery efficiency, they feature regenerative braking. But the drawback is no option for regenerative braking modes for aggressive output. Additionally, the regen system is mild in decelerative effectiveness – meaning it cannot bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The system also comes backed by a battery overcharge protection – it disables the regenerative system for battery protection when the battery is charged above 90-95 percent SOC.
TVS iQube Ride & Handling
The TVS iQube offers decent ride and handling, featuring telescopic suspension at the front and hydraulic twin-tube shock absorbers in the rear; these are designed to function plushly, offering better ride comfort, especially when navigating uneven routes and speed breakers. Unlike sporty rivals with a firm suspension setup, the iQube prioritises ride comfort for an enhaced experienced.
When riding at 40 kmph speeds, the scooter glides well, without sharp vertical jolts. Straight-line stability is also good on the TVS iQube, irrespective of the variants with heavier batteries. However, the riding dynamics are more inclined towards a plush nature rather than sportiness, meaning high-speed dynamics is not by far the best since it is a family-oriented e-scooter. But for better appeal and traction, the TVS iQube also gets wide and tall, measuring 90/90 12 tubeless tyres.
TVS iQube Safety
The TVS iQube comes equipped with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear (only featured in the 3.1 kWh and 3.5 kWh). Meanwhile, the 2.3 kWh variant gets only drum brake fitments; although they are decent, the lack of an anti-lock braking system can become a problem, especially when operating on slippery or loose road sections. Moreover, the vehicle relies on a synchronised braking system that offers even brake force for the front and rear wheels.
Apart from these, to set high-reliability and safety standards, the TVS iQube uses an advanced battery management system for thermal efficiency. The system monitors battery cell heat, voltage levels, and current spikes to ensure vehicle protection. The battery pack also passes strict battery safety norms to ensure maximum electrical safety (adheres to AIS 156 safety norms). For battery dust and water ingress protection, the setup is constructed strictly adhering to the IP67 rating.
For rider and pillion safety, the TVS iQube also comes with a crash and fall alert system: an automated emergency notification system that alerts for help when the sensors detect vehicle impact and crash over a set safety threshold (using a gyro sensor). Overall, in the safety department, the TVS iQube sets high standards for vehicle, rider, and pillion protection.
TVS iQube Space & Comfort
The TVS iQube comes with a comfy seating arrangement with bolstering to seat the rider and pillion comfortably. The long single-piece seat utilises soft to medium density foam for a cushioned ride. The floorboard is also flat to accommodate smaller luggage easily. However, as mentioned before, the floorboard sits taller due to the battery pack integration, causing the knee to brush the handlebar. That is the only downside; the iQube has decent ergonomics as well — the handlebar is placed at a relaxed height, enabling riders to sit upright, with pressure off the wrist.
TVS iQube Charging & Warranty
The TVS iQube 2.3 kWh variant can be charged quickly using an off-board portable charger from 0-80 percent state of charge in 2 hours and 50 minutes. Meanwhile, the 3.1 kWh and 3.5 kWh takes 4 hours and 03 minutes and 4 hours and 40 minutes, respectively, featuring the same charging setup. While these capacities are decent, TVS does not feature an extensive charging ecosystem, meaning they are sparse when compared to Ather Energy’s grid network and the like.
As for warranty, the iQube from TVS comes backed by a 3-year or 50,000 km (whichever comes first) standard warranty; it is applicable to the vehicle and its battery pack. TVS is also offering an extended (optional) vehicle and battery warranty at a premium to enhance vehicle protection.
TVS iQube Service & Network
As per customers, the TVS iQube, being an electric vehicle, comes with low annual maintenance costs compared to ICE counterparts. Thanks to the regenerative system taking deceleration duties, brake wear is limited, meaning better durability compared to petrol scooters in India. However, tyres tend to wear faster since it features a heavy battery pack onboard and other components. That said, the tyres are designed to offer good performance in low-grip conditions.
In terms of the service network, traditional service technicians in smaller service centres lack extensive knowledge to cater to service requirements for the battery management system (BMS) and other electrical modules. Major components of the vehicle take longer to arrive, hindering quicker serviceability. But that said, customers state that the service experience has remained good in larger tier-1 and tier-2 cities across India.
Who should buy this?
The TVS iQube series is designed for customers who value reliability, performance, ride comfort, and decent vehicle handling performance for daily commutes in urban and semi-urban locations. It is for customers who require an electric scooter with low noise and vibrations for better rideability. The iQube also delivers predictable acceleration and handling, making it ideal for first-time electric scooter buyers. With a feature-rich and stylish design, it is best for the urban jungle appeal.
