Samsung users can now unlock, start, and share keys for select Mahindra Electric Origin SUVs (like XEV 9e, BE 6) using the Samsung Wallet’s Digital Car Key.
Samsung has officially launched the Digital Car Key feature for Mahindra electric SUVs in India, expanding its linked ecosystem via Samsung Wallet. The announcement was made on October 29 at the Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru, marking the beginning of a new chapter in smart transportation. With this functionality, select Mahindra EV owners will soon be able to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using compatible Galaxy smartphones, removing the need for a physical vehicle key.
Mahindra is the first Indian automaker to adopt Samsung’s Digital Car Key feature, joining the worldwide automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Hyundai that already offer similar technology in selected models and locations. Integrated within Samsung Wallet, the system provides seamless access and control for Galaxy users while emphasising Mahindra’s commitment to advanced, tech-led mobility experiences.
Phone Replaces Key
Samsung has included its Digital Car Key function in certain Mahindra Electric SUVs. This feature enables the user to have their phone act as the key fob and, hence, be able to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle through compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones without the need for a physical key fob. Once the phone is linked using the Samsung Wallet, the user can walk to the car with the phone in their pocket or bag, and it will automatically grant them access.
Tech Behind Access
The digital key operation is based on cutting-edge wireless technologies to ensure simultaneous communication with the vehicle. The system makes use of a combination of NFC (Near Field Communication) and UWB (Ultra-Wideband ) technologies, which are dynamically selected based on the Galaxy device, vehicle model, and based on intended function. The UWB tech ensures the users have a passive entry without having to press any buttons, which also enhances the user-friendly experience.
Key Sharing Feature
One of the main features of the Digital Car Key is the easy sharing of vehicle access. Users can allow friends or family members to have access for a restricted time or a limited period directly via the Samsung Wallet app. This offers convenience as the owner can control the time period for which each shared key would be active, thus providing a suitable option for joint vehicle use and multi-driver households.
Mahindra EVs Supported
The concept of Digital Car Key is first being introduced in Mahindra’s premium electric vehicles that belong to the ‘Electric Origin’ range. The two models that are going to get these digital keys are the Mahindra XEV 9e and the BE 6. The feature will be controlled and turned on by the Galaxy user through the settings menu in the Samsung Wallet.
Security is Tight
Samsung has taken the protection of the Digital Car Key to a whole new level by introducing military-grade security protocols. Samsung Wallet keeps the digital key securely, and it is encrypted and authenticated to the user’s identity by Knox, the company’s security platform that uses advanced encryption and biometrics to block any unauthorised access. In case the user’s device is misplaced or stolen, he/she can remotely lock or wipe the digital key by using the Samsung Find service.
