MG Motor India has hit a key milestone in its electric journey by selling over 1 lakh electric vehicles since entering the EV market in 2020. JSW MG Motor India is now the country’s second carmaker to reach this milestone, after Tata Motors.
Over the past five years, MG has established a significant presence in India’s electric vehicle market. Electric vehicles now comprise over 70% of MG’s monthly sales, indicating the company’s successful shift to an electric-first business model. The company’s EV market share has also increased significantly—from 26% at the start of 2024 to nearly 35% by October 2025, showing Indian customers’ growing confidence in MG’s electric products.
Models Powering the Milestone
- The MG ZS EV, the company’s first electric SUV, was unveiled in 2020 and provided premium EV driving experiences to Indian consumers.
- MG Comet EV: Introduced in April 2023, this compact urban EV attracted younger consumers with its stylish design and affordability.
- MG Windsor EV and Windsor Pro: Launched in September 2024, these innovative crossovers quickly became bestsellers, making up about 30% of MG’s EV sales in October 2025.
MG’s Battery-as-a-Service approach for the Windsor series has also proven profitable, reducing barriers for EV buyers and increasing ownership flexibility.
