Tesla is set to expand its retail presence in India with the launch of its fourth showroom, this time in Bengaluru, underscoring the company’s ongoing focus on key metropolitan markets as it gradually increases its footprint in the country.
See you soon in Namma Bengaluru
The electric vehicle manufacturer confirmed the development via a social media post, teasing the upcoming debut with the remark, “See you soon in Namma Bengaluru.” Tesla is planning a new showroom in addition to its current ones in Gurugram, Delhi, and Mumbai.
With a thriving charging ecosystem, a tech-savvy consumer base, and a high demand for electric vehicles, Bengaluru is considered one of India’s most EV-friendly cities. The city supports a number of EV startups and added policy initiatives.
Tesla Model Y
Tesla is now offering the Model Y in India, which is imported as a completely assembled vehicle. The Bengaluru showroom is planned to showcase the vehicle while helping with sales, customer inquiries, and brand awareness.
The Tesla Model Y is an all-electric five-seater compact crossover SUV available in three different configurations: rear-wheel drive (RWD), all-wheel drive (AWD), and performance variants. Depending on the model, the EV has a range of up to 661 kilometres on a single charge and two battery pack options: a 60 kWh battery pack and a 75 kWh battery pack. The Model Y has a maximum power of up to 201 horsepower.
The list of features includes:
- Larger 16-inch centre touchscreen
- Built-in navigation
- A 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating
- A 15-speaker or 16-speaker sound system
- A 360-degree acoustic glass refined carbon experience
- Heated and ventilated front and rear seats
- Standard fixed glass roof
- Autopilot (semi-autonomous driving)
- Optional Full Self-Driving
Gradual expansion
Tesla’s slow expansion comes as competition in India’s premium EV category heats up, with established brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Globally, the brand has delivered approximately 1.63-1.65 million vehicles in 2025, marking the second consecutive year of declining global sales as competition rises and subsidies shift in major nations.
In contrast, Tesla’s sales in India have started slowly since its mid-2025 debut. As a fully imported brand, it sold just over 225 Model Y units in 2025, representing just over 1 % of its global sales and significantly fewer than local competitors, indicating both high pricing and early market issues.
Future Plans
Despite limited availability, Tesla continues to attract high consumer interest, even as it navigates a competitive global landscape and seeks to expand its footprint in the Indian EV market.
While Tesla is yet to announce an official launch date for the Bengaluru showroom, the move signals that the company is planning on opening in key Indian cities as it analyses long-term growth potential in the nation.
