Ather Energy patents the EL01 electric scooter design in India. Built on the modular EL platform, it features a family-focused design and smart tech.
Ather Energy has registered a new electric scooter model in India, which is derived from its modular EL platform. The Indian startup will introduce this family-oriented variant at the end of 2026 with the intention to enrich its environmentally friendly product portfolio. The platform accommodates all kinds of batteries and high-tech features, which are treated as a practical and efficient electric mobility solution for the domestic market.
Modular Platform Details
The creation of a patented design involves Ather’s incredibly new modular EL platform. This platform, which differs from the current 450 series, is incredibly flexible and caters to a range of battery sizes from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. The modular platform can be a good option for families, sporty, or maxi-scooter electric formats.
Key Visual Features
The design adopts a clean and minimalist approach with mobility as the main driver behind it. Major features of the design are as follows:
- LED Lighting: Clear front lighting is primarily used during the day, and the rear features a fully LED tail lamp.
- Comfort Focus: Broad and flat floor designed for family use, plus one long seat made of a single piece.
- Wheel Setup: The concept utilised a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel for better stability.
Advanced Tech Features
Ather plans to load the production model with smart electric technology. It is expected to feature a 7-inch TFT display for connected features and navigation. Additionally, the EL platform debuts the Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS) to reduce braking distances. A new Charge Drive Controller also combines the charger and motor controller into one unit, freeing up more under-seat storage space.
Market Launch Timeline
Ather has stated that the first production model from this next-gen electric platform will likely debut during the festive season of 2026. For a period, these new models will sell alongside the existing 450 series and the Rizta. This strategy helps the brand target more diverse buyers in the growing Indian electric two-wheeler market.
