India Poised to Become Suzuki’s Global EV Hub

PM Modi will launch Maruti Suzuki first EV, the e-Vitara, in Gujarat, making India a global manufacturing hub for the brand’s electric vehicles.
In a significant step towards the ‘Make in India’ vision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is about to inaugurate the assembly line for Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara. This event takes place on August 26 at the Hansalpur factory of the brand in Gujarat and marks the onset of mass production for the electric SUV.
It is also an essential step towards making India a key hub for Suzuki’s global electric vehicle strategy. The made-in-India e-Vitara is dedicated to exports to over 100 countries, including some of the largest markets in Europe and Japan.
The All-New e-Vitara
As the first electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki, the e-Vitara will increase the standard against rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and MG ZS EV. Although production and exports will begin immediately, the e-Vitara’s official launch for the Indian market is expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Inaugural Event and Future Plans
Prime Minister Modi will oversee the launch event, which will not only see the e-Vitara roll off the production line but also the start of local hybrid battery electrode manufacture at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Plant. This is also an essential step for Indian self-reliance in clean energy.
As stated in an official release from the Prime Minister’s Office, the e-Vitara is Suzuki’s first global strategic Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), and its production in India should occupy the country’s place as it takes on greater significance in the international automotive landscape. This would make India the central manufacturing base for all Suzuki electric vehicle exports around the globe.
