Hyundai has given a good jolt of energy to the proceedings with ‘Concept Three.’ The compact EV previews the Ioniq 3, which will take on the VW Golf GTI with market entry by 2026.
The design philosophy, known as the “Art of Steel,” embodies the ultimate attitude toward the exterior of the Hyundai Concept Three. Sculpted bodywork and parametric pixel lighting comprising Hyundai’s signature style at the front and rear give that stark, futuristic statement. However, many of the entertaining touches on the concept car, such as gullwing doors and large wheels, probably won’t make it to production, so one could reasonably expect the Ioniq 3’s design to lean heavily on this.

Sustainable Interior and Minimalist Design
Moving into the cabin, sustainability is given huge consideration. Interiors use recycled ocean waste textiles and lightweight aluminum foam. Minimalist in design, the two-tone theme of the cabin is grey with yellow splashes. Also, two small displays rather than a large central screen complement this style of clean, uncluttered feel. This depicts Hyundai’s commitment to respectful citizenship of nature and designing for the user.
Performance and Market Competition
While the full technical specifications are not yet finalized, the ‘Concept Three’ is expected to be built on the company’s 400V E-GMP electric architecture. It might share battery options with Kia’s EV3, which sets it up nicely in the compact EV space. When launched, the Ioniq 3 from Hyundai is then expected to battle head-to-head with the all-electric VW Golf GTI, placing it firmly in the performance-oriented EV hatchback segment.
From Concept to Production
Some of its most extravagant features that left audiences in awe would probably not make it to the production version. The gullwing-style doors and oversized wheels of the Concept Three follow the way of the show car design and would most probably be replaced by more conventional looks. The production model is supposed to be more down-to-earth and appeal to the mass market, but at best will hold on to the key visual identity of the concept.
The Vision for Ioniq 3
Beyond offering a potential new model, Hyundai Concept Three assumes the role of a grand statement about Hyundai’s projection for the future of compact electric vehicles. Positioning the Ioniq 3 in rivalry against the all-electric VW Golf GTI signals Hyundai’s ambition to penetrate the performance-oriented compact hatchback segment. In turn, this feeds into the company’s larger strategy to expand the Ioniq lineup with a diverse set of vehicles aimed toward multiple market segments.
