Honda Cars India has embarked on pan-Indian testing of its next electric SUV, the Honda 0 Alpha, which is one of the most significant developments in the company’s entry into the Indian EV market. The model will be the first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to debut in India, although it was presented in concept form at the Japan Mobility Show. This testing will expose the SUV to various conditions, such as city roads, highways, and rough roads and surfaces, to observe its performance and handling in Indian day-to-day driving.
Manufacturing And Investment Plans
Honda has also confirmed that the 0 Alpha SUV will be manufactured at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, and the model will be available for the Indian market and export markets. The company has also intended to invest approximately 1200 crore to aid its EV manufacturing in the country. The SUV is expected to be launched first in India and Japan, with a timeline set for FY2026-27.

Key Specifications
The Honda 0 Alpha SUV is based on the brand’s ‘Thin, Light and Wise’ design philosophy, which was first seen on the concept version. The production version is likely to carry forward several of these elements, such as a wide, upright stance, a distinct front design with an illuminated Honda logo, and a sharply sloped windscreen. The car design is expected to include 19-inch alloy wheels, designed to improve aerodynamics, together with wheel arches that will be clearly visible, a side charging port, a vertical rear window, and full-width U-shaped tail lights. The rear bumper will include a faux bash plate, which enhances its appearance as an SUV.
Honda has disclosed the wheelbase measurement, which ranges between 2700 mm and 2800 mm, but all other interior specifications remain undisclosed. The 0 Alpha is expected to be offered with two LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack options, a 65kWh and a 75kWh. The final specifications are yet to be confirmed.
Expected Price And Rivals
The Honda 0 Alpha SUV will likely begin at approximately ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), which is in the mid-size electric SUV segment. When it goes on sale, it will take on models like the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Maruti e Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV, along with upcoming options such as the Toyota E-bella. With testing now underway, the Honda 0 Alpha marks an important step in Honda’s broader electrification plans for India.
